Keith Wilson of Jo- seph last week received from the French provisional gov- ernment a communication awarding him the French Croix de Guerre medal for dis- tinguished services rendered in the liberation of France while serving overseas with the 90th division. Mr. Wilson also has the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with cluster, Silver Star, ETO service medal with ive bronze stars, and the combat infantry- man’s badge. • The circus which visit- ed Enterprise last Saturday, giving afternoon and evening performances at the fair- grounds, was well patronized. It is estimated that nearly 1,500 persons attended the af- ternoon show. • The Wallowa library is now open again after being closed a month for a thorough cleaning. The walls have been kem-toned and new linoleum is to be laid when it is avail- able. Twelve new books have been recently added to the shelves. • R. T. Sanders of Wallowa while ishing in Kinney Lake last Friday hooked a 14-inch goldish, which has been put in the fountain pool at the lodge at the lake. Mr. Sanders was fortunate in having a can with him so that he could keep the ish alive until he got it to town. Mr. Raner of the ish commission here said that the ish was an ordinary goldish that had grown up. How it ever happened to be in Kinney lake is anybody’s guess. 50 YEARS AGO June 2, 1966 • Lightning danced around the hills in the Troy area on Monday afternoon and about 3:30 a bolt struck in the bottom of the canyon causing quite a little excitement. The stray bolt set ire to a house owned by Bernice Lotts of Hood River. The issue was brought before the voters about two years ago and was approved by an overwhelming margin at that time … a new election will de- cide whether or not the people will approve a higher bond for the project. • A new shop, featuring a variety of crafts and hobbies, will open in Lostine Saturday when Mrs. Kenneth Barklow and Mrs. Ron McArtor will open the doors on their new Wallowa County Crafts and Fabric shop. • With college expenses in- creasing every year, Wallowa County’s recent high school graduates will need every pen- ny of the impressive $85,000 worth of scholarship/award money they had been awarded as of graduation time in May. State: Expect hospital cost estimates in days Wallowa County Chieftain Guide will help patients estimate procedure prices The Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Sys- tems (OAHHS) announced this month that every Oregon hos- pital can provide a cost estimate for hospital services for a sched- uled procedure within three business days. This is a voluntary policy helps uninsured or out-of-net- work patients to understand their potential costs for services provided at the hospital. Most insured patients, how- ever, will ind more useful infor- mation on costs by contacting their insurer, who can provide speciic estimates based on their particular plan. OAHHS also announced that the OregonHospitalGuide.org website now features a “Cost Estimates” section for each hospital in the state. This new section provides comprehen- sive information for consumers to contact hospital cost estimate and billing departments.
