A2 Weather/Obituaries wallowa.com April 27, 2016 Wallowa County Chieftain O BITUARIES Darrell Wayne McFetridge May 8, 1937 to April 19, 2016 Linnea Bailie Dec. 20, 1928 to April 19, 2016 Ronald Melvin Davis Jan. 31, 1944 to April 18, 2016 Darrell Wayne McFetridge, 78, passed away peacefully April 19, 2016, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. Darrell was born May 8, 1937, in Enterprise to Wayne and Irene (Herzog) McFetridge. He went to school through the eighth grade at Pratt School east of Enterprise, and attended Enterprise High School, graduating in 1955. Darrell went to college and graduated from Oregon Agricultural College, now Oregon State University. On July 23, 1960, Darrell married Marlie (Mensinger) McFetridge in Enterprise. Together they had six children, fi ve boys and one girl. Darrell was a farmer and rancher all of his life, raising hay, grain and beef cattle. Besides staying busy working on the farm, he was a member of the Wallowa County Jaycees, En- terprise Elks, Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, St. Katherine’s Catholic Church council, Wallowa County Grain Growers board of Directors, president of the Big Bend Ditch Associa- tion, president of the Associated Ditch Company, Cub Scout master, Little League coach for baseball and softball for 25 years, a member of the Enterprise School Board for 12 years, a member of the Enterprise FFA alumni and a Wallowa County Commissioner for four years. He enjoyed his family very much. He would often tell jokes at family gatherings that would make everyone laugh, and oc- casionally get himself in trouble. He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Marlie; children Steve (Penny) of Vale, Ore., Jay (Stephanie) of En- terprise, Dan (Tiffany) of Lewiston, Carl (Deena) of Enter- prise, Terry of Clarkston, Wash., and Diane (Kelly Morgan) of Hermiston; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; broth- ers Larry, Mike and David McFetridge; and sisters Evelyn McFetridge, Kay Forest and Sharon Ramos. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Irene McFetridge; sisters Teresa and Mary Anna; and infant granddaughter Bailey Morgan. Contributions in Darrell’s memory can be made to the En- terprise FFA Chapter. Linnea Bailie, 87, passed away peacefully in Grants Pass on April 19, 2016 surrounded by her immediate family. She was born Dec. 20, 1928 in La Grande to Reba Hopper Smutz and Charles Floyd Smutz. Linnea graduated from La Grande High School in 1946. On Jan. 19, 1947 she married William Everett Bailie, who preceded her in death in 1961. She lived in Enterprise and La Grande until 1995, when she moved to Woodburn, Ore., to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She later moved to Grants Pass in 2009 to live with her daughter Linda and son-in-law Bob. Linnea worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Rogers As- phalt Paving in La Grande until she retired. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church. Linnea enjoyed crocheting many beautiful afghans for her family and friends and donated over 66 afghans to nurs- ing homes and philanthropic groups in the Salem area. She loved reading mystery novels and particularly enjoyed Louis L’Amour and Dick Francis. Linnea looked forward to frequent outings to the Oregon coast, Hawaii and Alaska with family and friends. Linnea served for 26 years as a director on the Oregon State Bowling Association, was elected member Emeritae and was inducted into the OSWBA Hall of Fame in 1998. She bowled several leagues a week well into her 70s. Linnea is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Bob Gourde of Grants Pass; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dennis Peck of Dallas, Ore.; son and daughter- in-law David and Patty Bailie of Aloha, Ore.; son and daugh- ter-in-law Bill and Janice Bailie of Broken Arrow, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law Lynn and Marcia Bailie of King City Ore.; and 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Linnea was preceded in death by her husband Bill (WWII veteran, U.S. Navy); her brother Walter; and her parents Reba and Charles Smutz. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon April 23 at Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise. A grave- side service at 1 p.m. at Enterprise Cemetery will follow. Donations may be made to the Cancer Association or the American Heart Association. Ronald Melvin Davis , 72, of Prineville, Ore., passed away April 18, 2016 at his home in Prineville and joined his daugh- ter Steffany in heaven. A military burial was held at Juniper Haven Cemetery on April 22, followed by a me- morial service at First Baptist Church in Prineville. Ronald was born Jan. 31, 1944, to Melvin and Maxene Davis in Enterprise. He was raised on a cattle ranch north of Enterprise and went to a one- room country school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Joseph High School in 1962. He attended Eastern Oregon College for one year. He re- ceived his draft notifi cation in 1964, so he enlisted in the Navy, where he served four years during the Vietnam War. He married Marlene Mustain on Dec. 26, 1970. They had three beautiful daughters: Steffany, Susan and Jennifer. After his service to his country, Ronald returned to college and earned degrees in education and agriculture. He taught school for four years, fi rst in John Day, later in Harrisburg. Ron and Marlene ran a youth farm for troubled teens near Cottage Grove from 1975-’76. He began his career with the Soil Con- servation Service (now called Natural Recourse Conservation Service) in 1980. He worked in McMinnville, Tillamook and Prineville, where he retired in 2005. The couple also cared for foster children for several years. They have three who have been so close to Ron and his family even today: Angela (Johnson) Goodpaster, Ashley (Johnson) Monroe and Vicki (House) Gonzalez. Ron loved serving his church and community while working in the First Baptist Church food pantry and the church kitchen and Fellowship Committee for many years. In 2006, he, along with many friends from First Baptist Church and the communi- ty of Prineville, helped start the Oasis Soup Kitchen, a service to feed the homeless and hungry. Ronald is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marlene; his daughter Susan Friesen and son-in-law Mark Friesen of Spring- fi eld, Va.; daughter Jennifer Sahnow and son-in-law Andrew Sahnow of Vancouver, Wash.; son-in-law Pepper Woolsey of Prineville; seven grandchildren: Jonathan and Anna Friesen, Arielle, Abigail and Daniel Sahnow, Sawyer and Calvin Wool- sey; sister Julie (Davis) Kooch of Enterprise; brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Kathy Nelson, also of Enterprise; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Max- ene Davis, and his precious daughter Steffany (Davis) Woolsey. Knotts, son of Maiva Knotts and late Raymond Knotts, passed away March 16, 2016 in Bend, Ore., with his family and girlfriend by his side. Firewood permits go on sale May 1 Wallowa County Chieftain Firewood permits for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest will go on sale May 1. Personal-use fi rewood permits can be purchased for $5 per cord, with a four-cord mini- mum and a 10-cord maximum. Personal-use fi rewood permits will be available at Forest Ser- vice offi ces on Monday, May 2 and at several local vendors beginning Sunday, May 1. Commercial fi rewood permits are only available at Ranger District Offi ces. Vendors that sell fi rewood permits may add an additional vendor fee of up to $2 per per- mit. “Our vendors provide a great service to the woodcutter by selling fi rewood permits at times more convenient to the public,” said Tom Montoya, forest supervisor. Most vendors are open ear- ly mornings, late evenings and on the weekends. An additional fee is not charged if you pur- chase a permit at a Forest Ser- vice offi ce. Permits may be purchased locally at Sports Corral in Jo- seph, The Dollar Stretcher in Enterprise and Ron’s Place in Wallowa. Firewood cutters will be required to keep a record of the date, time, and quantity of fi rewood removed from the National Forest System Lands.
