Wallowa County Chieftain Arts wallowa.com November 18, 2015 A7 MidValley Theater still looking for ‘Our Town’ cast members Wallowa County Chieftain Kathleen Ellyn/Chieftain Hunter Russell, 16, of Joseph; Madison Falk, 17, of Enterprise; and Renee Seal, 14, of Joseph watch the playback of a scene to decide if they need a retake. The team won Best Cinematography for their science fiction entry “Discord.” 13 films debut at ‘best ever’ 48-Hour festival Auditions for MidValley Theatre Company’s Spring 2016 production of “Our Town” have passed, but the show remains in need of a few good men (and boys, and hopefully a few women as well). MidValley Theatre is pro- ducing the American classic by Thornton Wilder in con- junction with Fishtrap as part of the 2016 Big Read, which kicks off Jan. 21. Anyone interested in joining the cast should con- tact MidValley Community Theatre President and “Our Town” Director Kate Loftus at (541) 569-2302. “We still need quite a few men and really it doesn’t make a difference what age,” Loftus said. “We have parts for three or four base- ball players the same age as young male lead, who’s 16. But we can work with who- ever is interested. We also need a couple of women and other men to play townspeo- ple — and a couple of grave- diggers.” Following casting, actors will begin rehearsals Jan. 4, with performance dates set for the middle two weeks of February. By Kathleen Ellyn Wallowa County Chieftain It’s a wrap, and a party. The 4th Annual Ruby Peak 48-Hour Film Festival wrapped up Monday night at the OK Theatre with 13 out of 14 ¿lm companies turning in their productions. The crowd ¿lled the the- ater and the night was ¿lled with applause. “This has been our best year ever,” said co-organiz- er (along with Carolyn Le- one) Luke Zwanziger. “What you’re seeing tonight is im- pressive.” (very ¿lm crew ¿nished its ¿lm from start to ¿nish in 48 hours, doing their own writing, directing, shooting, acting and editing. They were given genres for their ¿lm, drawn from a hat, and every ¿lm had to include a self-help guru, a statue of some kind and use of the phrase “Con- ventional wisdom says, ‘You get what you pay for’.” The stories of the shoot included accounts of crying, whining, epic meltdowns and hair-tearing technical dif¿- culties; that, and laughter, moments of inspiration, ap- preciation of each other and awe at their own persistence and talent.
