Show & Shine draws autos, smiles
By Steve Tool
Wallowa County Chieftain
Thanks to good local weath-
er, hundreds of people perused
more than 100 cars at the sec-
ond annual Main Street Show &
Shine car show held Aug. 14-15
in Enterprise.
Wide eyes and low whistles
punctuated many of the com-
ments from admirers of classic
cars with lots of chrome. At
least 113 cars were registered
and participated in the event, ac-
cording to Doug Crow, owner/
manager of Main Street Auto,
which co-sponsored the show
with the Elks Lodge. Crow said
the event had fewer entries this
year, which he attributed to the
¿res raging throughout the state.
“There wasn’t anyone who
didn’t drive in here without
saying they traveled through a
smoke, a ¿re or potential road
closure to get here,” Crow said.
Local turnout wasn’t as high
as Crow expected. “That may
be our fault. Last year we called
a lot of local people who had
a car we thought they should
show off. This year we didn’t do

probably come back, and they
didn’t for one reason or anoth-
er,” he said.
Crow said he received posi-
tive comments from new partic-

ipants and attendees alike, who
said they liked the small shows
better than the bigger ones be-
cause of the proximity of lodg-
ing and the downtown area. He
added that he appreciated the
support from participants, judg-
es, volunteers and the communi-
ty in making the show a success.
The judging staff included
eight people as opposed to last
year’s three judges. “We worked
those judges half to death; this
year we split it up better,” Crow
said.
