Ronald Theodore Joseph Tye was born in South Moun- tain, Kan., on Oct. 2, 1930. Corporal Tye served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1953. He attended 16 weeks of intensive war/combat train- ing at Camp Roberts in Cal- ifornia and CBR (Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warfare Training) in Japan. From there he was sent to the infamous Korean Punchbowl. He received the Korean Ser- vice Medal with three Bronze Stars, the UN Service Med- al and the Combat Infantry Badge. Earlier he was a member of ROTC while attending high school in Kansas City, and he joined the Navy Air Corps Reserve at age 17. By the time he was drafted into the Army at 21, he was a resident of Heppner, Ore., and employed in the logging industry. He had also met and married Jane Seehafer.
