the hitting that killed the Central

Previous reports from the
Bucks' home area had Indicated
that this was one of Uie best hit

Prineville boys are now firm be

Pendleton won Uie eastern divi

to Walla Walla, Pasco and Prine'
ville Friday afternoon.
The Crook County Cowboys end'
ed the season with an 18-4 record
which Included one loss to Bend.
Prineville supported a 11-1 record
for the western subdivision play.
The champion Bucks thus played
about 10 more games than Prine
ville and this showed up 111 th
games Saturday.
Pendleton, winner of th Tnter-
mountain conference champion'
ship, will now host North Salem,
champion of Uie 8 A-l race, in th
quarter-finals of Uie Oregon Class
A-l championships May 25 at Pen
dleton.
The semi-final round is sched
uled for May 28, with Uie final to
be held June 2 at Multnomah Sta
dium in Portland as the windup
of a triplcheader. The first two
will be games between schools
from Class B and A-2 champion
ships.
FIRST GAME
Jerry Zinn, Prineville Junior
catcher, hurt his hand on a foul
tip on the second batter up which
indirectly set up the first score of
the game for the Bucks. Tim Tem
ple, Uie center fielder for the
Bucks, got on with a walk. He
stole second with such good luck
that he also took third on a dou
ble steal as Jim Chrlstensen, Uie
big Pendleton catcher, stole sec
ond after getting on with a walk.
Both times Zinn, who could not
bend his forefinger, got off bad
throws. Temple scored on pass
ed ball.
Prineville looked good at bat in
Uie first Inning as Mike Barrow
got on with a single and Uie sec
ond man up, Brian Pope, hit a
triple that scored Barrow easily.

Robin Roberts
CLEVELAND. Ohio (UPI)
The Baltimore Orioles today an
nounced Uie signing of Robin
Roberts and named him as til

with Uie Cleveland Indians.
Roberts, former National
League pitching ace who won 234
games in 14 seasons with the
Philadelphia Phillies, had bees
a freo ngent since his release
earlier Uiis season by the New
York Yankees.
Oriole manager Billy Hitchcock
said left-hander Art Quirk would
bo opUoned to the Rochester farm
club in Uie International League
to make room for Roberts.
Roberts, 35, worked out in Bal
timore about a month ago and
impressed Hitchcock with a new
change-of pace pitch he has de

cause we believe he can still b
effective," Hitchcock said. "H

have developed a pretty good
change of pace which he didn't

later when Dick Jones belted

Prineville Palls to Score
Prineville picked up four hits
in the second but could not push
anyone across.
Pendleton went to work in Uie
top of Uie third when Tim Temple
got on with an error by Brian
Pope. The next man up, Chris
tensen, hit a long double to score
Temple. Big gun Bunker hit his
first homer Uiat scored Christen'
sen. Prineville picked up two hits
in th third but no scores.
The fourth inning went nowhere
for Pendleton, but they stopped
messing around in the top of the
fifth as the second man up. Lap
ry French, hit a triple. The next
up, Mike Shirley, hit a single that
scored French.
Shirley stole second. Jack
Baird, tho pint-sized third Backer
for the Bucks, clobbered another
homer. Baird really got the "old
back slapping" from his team
mates as he doesn't look big
enough to hit It past the pitcher.
Pope of Prineville hit a triple
to cheer the spirits of Uie Cow
boy lovers, but it wont for nought
as the other three men up went
down fast.
Tim Temple picked up a single
and on cue stole second. Tony
Svetich, Uie Pendleton pitcher,
knocked out a single to advance
Temple to Uiird. Both scored
when Bunker put one into orbit
that hit In the second row of cars
over the left field fence.
Prineville tried to come back
but could only get Westbrook to
third on a tingle, an error on the
first baseman and a passed ball.
Thus Pendleton made up for
Friday's defeat with a 12-1 win.
SECOND GAME
Pendleton started th second
gam off with a bang as they
sent 11 men to Uie plate in Uie
first Inning and collected six runs
on five hits.
