Fifth and Glenwood Drive, followed by danc ing. The Christian Women's Fel lowship Mill hold a social evening for members and their husbands, at 8 o'clock in the social hall of First Christian Church. A marriage license was issued Wednesday at the county clerk's office to James Buss, LaPine, and Anna Rose, Eugene. Missionary Volunteers of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church will meet tonight at 7:30 at the schoolhouse on E. Third Street. "Nature" will be the theme for the program, featuring color slides, music and poems. George Churchill will be caller at a square dance to be held in Tithing calls set for Sunday This Sunday will see one of the largest groups of Catholic men ever organized in Bend go out to call upon every member of St. Francis of Assisi parish, Very Reverend Stephen Murtagh, the pastor, announced today. All parish families have been requested to remain home that afternoon and evening from 3 p.m. until the man assigned to explain Die tithing program calls. Be cause few men have more than four calls to make, the solicita tion should be a rapid one. This program is designed to con centrate all parish contributions in the one Sunday offertory en velope and will eliminate the nec essity for all other forms of par ish fund raising. All signs. Father Stephen explained, i n d i c a t e a highly successful conclusion to this program upon which the par ish has been laboring for the past six weeks. Workers in the solicitation will be entertained at a breakfast Sun day morning in the parish hall, following 7:30 mass. The first report meeting will be held Sunday night at 8 o'clock in the parish hall, and all commit tee . members should attend, general chairman Gottlieb Baer announced. Restaurant under new management The Banty Shanty, at 1933 North First Street at the north edge of Bend, is open under new manage ment. The owners are Mr. and Mrs. Werner Fohrer, newcomers to Bend. The Fohrers said that they chose Bend for a business loca- Uw because of their favorable im- i pression of the Central Oregon area, on a site-seeking tour. "We are delighted with Bend and are happy to make our home here," they said. Mr. and Mrs. Fohrer are na tives of Germany, and came to America in 1952. They settled first in Canada, unable to be included in Uie United States quota, then moved to Chicago in 1956, when Fohrer transferred Uiere from em ployment with a Canadian firm. Later they owned and operated a restaurant in Chicago, and mov ed to Portland, Oregon, in 1961. They were in the restaurant busi ness there before coming to Bend the middle of last month. The new owners have pur chased the building, fixtures and equipment. They plan to do some extensive renovating next winter. A rummage sale being held un der sponsorship of American Her itage in quarters adjacent to Uie telephone company office on Bond Street will continue until 9 p.m. both tonight and Saturday night. Eight tables of bridge were in play at the Bend Golf Club Wed nesday afternoon, when mem bers of Uie women's association held their weekly get-together. Most played nine holes of golf in the morning, and brought sack lunches. The prize for high score at bridge went to Mrs. L. T. Standifer. Mrs. C. C. Howe was second high. Another bridge party will be held next Wednesday at 1 p.m. Conifer Club will meet Tuesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Don Franks, 739 E. Tenth Street. Forest service wives of the Sisters district will be hostess- . es. I I A rummage sale will be held Tuesday and Wednesday by the Past Matrons Club, Order of East ern Star. It will be in the former Lumbermens Insurance Agency location on Oregon Avenue. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Members are to have their donations at the sale location by Monday noon. Four Bend Army reservists, George Clapp, Corwin E. Hein, Gale Pelker and Joe Steppe, have lelt for Fort Lewis, wasn., to par ticipate in the Sixth Army rifle competition and regular matches. Following the dinner, initiation will be held at the Ma sonic Temple. LaFrenier put on probation Gary LaFrenier, 20, of Bend, ap peared yesterday before Circuit Judge Robert H. Foley and was placed on five years probation. He had pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining property under false pretenses, and sentence was de laved nendini! a report from the State Board of Parole and Proba tion. Kathy was a student last year at the University of Oregon, where she was a member of Uie exclu sive top group of Uie University Singers and the University Or chestra. She took private voice and cello lessons under Jclinek. When she attended Bend High School, she played in the orches tra and was a member of Uie choir and Uie triple trio. She re ceived A ratings in all area mu sic contest, and was named for both all-state and all-Northwest orchestras. A mezzo soprano, she played the lead in "Annie Get Your Gun," under direction of Dallas Quick. In her senior year of high school, when she studied voice with Quick, she was presented in a joint recital with Mrs. Landra Strother. In January, 1960. she audiUoned in Portland for the Metropolitan Opera Co., for Uie experience, and later that year was runner-up in the Miss Deschutes County con test. Her interests range from play-reading to basking in Uie sun, and she takes jazz dance les sons at Uie Mary Cowden School of Dance. Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boardman, 501 State Street. Officers named by LaPine unit Mrs. Tommy Day and Mrs. Ray mond Morehouse were re-elected as chairman and vice-chairman respectively, of the LaPine home extension unit. The meeting was held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Anderson. Also named to offices were Mrs. Lloyd Anderson, secretary, and Mrs. Sylvia Jacobsen, treasurer. William C. James of Bend, Deschutes county Civil Defense director, was guest speaker for Uie afternoon program. Mr. McAllister, a graduate from Uie University of Washington School of Journalism in 1929, came to Bend in 1948, and remained here for about five years. At Uie University of Washington, he was affiliated with Sigma Nu Fratern ity. In Portland. Mr. McAllister was associated -with Abbott, Kerns and BeU, printing firm. Surviving Mr. McAllister are his widow, Dorothy; a daughter, Mrs. Michael Murphy, Spring field, and a granddaughter, Lin da Murphy, Springfield. Funeral services will be held in SeatUe, Wash., at the Church of the Assumption, Laurelhurst, eith er on Monday or Tuesday. In Portland, Mr. McAllister was a member of the St Thomas Moore Catholic parish. Mr. McAllister was a visitor In Bend, on business, only a few days ago. The family home is at 3707 S.W. 52nd Place. Montana man gets stiff fine A citation for a basic rule vio lation drew a sleep fine for a Montana man Wednesday in Des chutes county court. Clifford Greg ory Tomlinson, Helena, paid $50. He was clocked on Uie open high way doing 90 miles an hour. Judge Joe Thalliofer fined George Ellsworth Barney Jr., Sa lem, $10 for a basic rule viola tion. Church carnival being planned A carnival, open to Uie public, will be held Saturday, April 7, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Latter Day Saints Church. The event is sponsored by Uie LDS Seminary, the high school young people of Uie church. There will be numerous games and concessions, snack booths and a chili feed. A special attraction will be a dunking tank, with successful par ticipants in a ball toss to be awarded with Uie spectacle of a police officer or a school teacher getting a dunking. Proceeds from the event will be used by the Seminary for a tr'n to Eugene April 14, to attend a convenUon. PROWLER REPOITED Mrs. Fred Zlnk, 1212 Cumber land, told City Police she had a prowler late Wednesday night. The prowler apparently tried to open her back door, Mrs. Zink said. March leads the three months with permits totaling $184,000 for four new residences, garages, a new post office, one store and al terations. The election was held at the meeting Thursday evening at the home of Miss Opal Lisenby, Prineville. Police report pair of arrests Police reported two arrests Thursday, one for a traffic viola tion and another on a dog-at-large charge. Harry Eugene Strope, Highway 20 east, posted $10 bail on a charge of running a stop sign. Neil Davis, P.O.
