The Seals healed up the rivalry Sunday night with a 6-2 win over Southern Division - leading Port land, while Los Angeles suc cumbed to Seattle, 5-4. Elsewhere in the league Spokane crept to within six points of Port land with a free-scoring 10-4 de feat of Calgary. San Francisco's win increased the Seals' point total to 50, two short of third-place Los Angeles in the Southern Division. The first three teams in each division are eligible for the playoffs. The Seals' Al Nicholson dis mayed the 9537 fans at Portland with a hat trick in the second period. His three goals came at 0:26, 5:00 and 12:37 of tile period. The Seals held a 2-0 lead after the first period and got four more in the second. Portland's pair came in the second stanza. Seattle rallied for two Qnals. in thf final nprinH tn nin T.ne An- ! Falech makes debut Saturday NEW YORK (UPD - Welter weight Ricardo Falech of Argen tina makes his United States de but Saturday night in a nationally televised fight with Luis Rodriguez of Cuba, third-ranking contender, at Miami Beach. Rodriguez will be favored over the unranked South American be cause of his high rating and be cause of his speed. However, it was Falech who asked for Rodriguez as his first U.S. opponent despite the hesita tion of co-manager Charley John ston. Falech had seen movies of Rodriguez' victory over Fedcrico Thompson and was not im pressed. Rodriguez has a 41-2-2 record; Falech, a 28-2-2 list. Falech, 27, is two years older than Rodriguez. The Beavers completed their best season since 1955 Saturday night by edging Oregon 60-56. They move into the NCAA play offs Tuesday night at Corvallis against Seattle. Coach Slats Gill's tall warriors finished the regular season with 22 wins and four losses, the best they have done since the 22-8 year of 1955. Gill pulled his starters with a sea wins Al B tourney BAKER (UPP Alsea lias its first state class B high school basketball title today, after two previous years in the finals. The Wolverines dumped Colton 59-36 in the tille game here Satur day night as twins Lloyd and Flovd Dixon scored 18 and 15 points, respectively. Neither team could make more than 30 per cent of its shots, but Alsea did hold a 26-19 halftime lead. Mt. Vernon took third place with a 64-55 win over Condon and Merrill captured consolation hon ors with a 71-50 triumph over Wallowa. The two Dixons were named to the all-tournament team, which also included Don Winslow of Col ton, Ed Parnell of Merrill and Robert Long of Wallowa. A tie in voting resulted in a six-man second team which in cluded Elliott Lewis of Colton, Paul Abies and Larry Bryant of Mt. Vernon, Bruce Logan of Con don, Dick Carleton of Merrill, and Grant Stone of Alsea. 15-point lead In Saturday's game, and the Oregon reserves almost took the victory away. Charlie Warren of Oregon led all scorers ..ilh 20 points. Jay Carty had 16 points and 17 rebounds for Oregon State and seven-fooler Mel Counts added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Oregon completed the season with nine wins and 17 losses, its Rooks clobber Frosh in finale EUGENE (UPD The Oregon State Rooks finished their basket ball season with a 65-55 victory over the Oregon Frosh Saturday night. The victory was the 17th in 18 starts for Oregon Slate. Jim Jar vis and Frank Peters led the Rooks' attack with 18 and 16 points. poorest season since coach Sieve Belko's first year in 1DJ7.
