Western nad prepared to close down its "entire route" despite an announcement by the pilots jiat the walkout over a contract dispute would nut be called this morning. Spokesmen said they had not received -word from the pilot's association of any postponement. The association and company have been Involved in a contract dispute which centers around the pilot's demand for increased com pany contributions to an annuity pension program. Western President- Terrell C. Drinkwater said the company, wiich serves 45 cities and 12 Western states and Canada, was "expecting a strike at 6 a.m. be cause the pilots have set . that strike time and we have heard nothing (Directly) to the contrary." The Air Line Pilots Assn. post poned the strike yesterday in or der to meet with Leverett Ed wards, cnairman of the Federal Mediation Board. But an A LP A spokesman added that the associa tion was ready to strike "as soon as the Mediation Board releases jurisdiction." Euch of the youngsters was a guest of a club member at the luncheon, and each received several presents. This year; Santa spoke to the youngsters in a distinctly southern drawl, and the children were told that he had come from the South Pole. Primaries Being Eyed By Kefauver WASHINGTON (UP) Sen. Es tes Kefauver today eved a num ber of presidential primaries oth er than California's for possible tests of strength with Adlui E. Stevenson. In their preliminary sparring so far the two candidates for the Democratic presidential nomina tion have announced plans to enter seven state primaries. But Califor nia is the only one on both their lists. Stevenson has announced he will go into PensylvaniH, Florida Illinois and -Minnesota as well as California. Kefauver added Wiscon sin yesterday to his previous an nouncements of New Hampshire and California. It was understood that Kefauver already has decided tentatively to go into Florida against Stevenson. But he told his news conference yesterday he was not ready to announce a decision. Oregon offers another chance for a contest inasmuch as both men enn be entered without their con sent. But in any event California's winner take all primary next June looks like the crucial contest for both. Kefauver said he has not yet ruled out any state primaries and ivferred specifically in response to questions to Oregon. Pennsyl vania, Ohio and Minnesota us states on which he has reached no decision.
