The Bend Bulletin, Thursday, July 21, 1955 3a Ice Cream, Plain or Fancy, Good Food for Summer Ice cream is a welcome treat anytime to most ol us. but it particularly enjoyable during the warm summer montlis. The nicest thing about ice cream is its "dou ble dividend" it's a mighty good food in addition to being such a joy to eat. Ice cream tastes good plain, but u s run to have it "fancy." espe cially when you are plannine some thing special. Two glamorous (but easy to jnake) ice cream desserts plus a fluffy refreshing milk lrink are suggested here for summer parties, family meals, or in-be-tween .refreshments. Regardless ot how you like to serve .ice- cream or how you like to eat it, remember, you can eat pkenty; it s good for you! Chocolate Charlotte (Serves 6) 1 8-inch sponge cake layer 4 Tbsp. sherry 1 pint chocolate Ice cream Vi cup cream, whipped Cut sponge cake layer into thin strips. Line freezing tray of auto matic refrigerator with strips. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sherry. then spread half of ice cream over this. Top with remaining cake and sherry,- then with rest of ice cream. Cover with waxed paper and freeze until firm. To serve, cut in slices and top with whipped cream. Rapsberry Ice Cream Pie (Serves 6) 1 9-inch pie shell 1 pkg; .raspberry gelatin 1 2-3 cups hot water 1 Tbsp. lemon juice 1 pint vanilla ice cream 1 cup crushed raspberries, ' fresh or frozen Whipped cream Dissolve gelatin in hot water. Add lemon juice; chill until partly set. Beat ice cream into gelatin until smooth and fluffy. Fold raspberries. Pour chilled filling into cool baked pie shell. Chill un til firm, ubout one hour. Spread with, whipped cream, garnish with raspberries and serve. Peppermint Delight (Serves 4) '5 Tbsp. sugar 1 quart milk, chilled tsp. peppermint falvoring Red vegetable coloring 1 pint vanilla ice cream Whipped cream Maraschino cherries Shaved chocolate Dissolve sugar in milk. Add fla voring and tint with coloring to dp sired shade. Pour into glasses and spoon generous portions of ice cream onto milk mixture. lop with whipped cream, piling into peaks. Garnish each serving with a cherry and shaved chocolate curls. For a quick and easy dessert- try Chocolate Chip Tortonl. Fold 1 package semi sweet chocolate pieces and 1 teaspoon almond fla voring into 1 quart softened vanil la Ice cream. Spoon into paper baking cups and sprinkle with chopped toasted almonds.
