The Bend Bulletin, Thursday, March 10, 1955 GLEE CLUB QUARTET These our young women are fea tured as a novelty ensemble with the 40-voice Gonzaga Uni versity women's glee club, to be presented in concert Thursday evening, March 17, at the Kenwood auditorium. Hobby Show Will Be Held March 26-27 Election or officers for the 1955 56 school year, a program and plans for the annual hobby and handcrafts show occupied mem bers of the Reid-Thompson PTA at the meeting Monday evening in Thompson auditorium. The hobby show will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27, under joint ' sponsorship of the PTA and the City Recreation department. Mrs. Wallace Van Hise, who pre sided at the meeting, was elevated from vice-president to president, the following others were named to offices: Vice - president, Mrs. Wallace Kremers; treasurer, Jack Corbett; secretary, Mrs. M. B. Mc Kenney. Mrs. McKenney led the group singing, and Miss Jean Webster showed slides made torn pictures she took on a trip to Europe last summer. Her presentation was limited to that part of her trip which covered France, England, Holland and Switzerland. Reports were given by Mrs. Van Hise, chairman for the silver tea to be held in connection witli the hobby show, and Mrs. Virgil Hammer, chairman for (he food sale, an annual feature of the event. One of the new. features at the show this year, according to Wayne Hamilton, recreation direc tor, will be a "ham" radio stution, set up for dispatching and receiv ing messages. Application blanks for the show are available at the City Hall, the County Library and the Chamber of Commerce omce. TliP PTA will hold a board meet ing Thursday night at the home mF H r. Prineville Club Planning Benefit For Hospital Fund Special to The Bulletin PRINEVILLE Mrs. Kelsie Ra mey Osborne, secretary of Old Oregon Trail, Inc., of Portland, will be guest at a dinner spon sored by the Prineville Soropti- mist club, Wednesday evening, March 16, at the high school cafe- torium. Dinner will be served at 6:30. followed by a "travelogue" includ ing pictures taken by Mrs. Os borne on her trip over the old Lewis and Clark trail last year. The film strip will be shown on a wide screen with commentary by Mrs. Osborne, who is also a member of Governor Patterson's committee on the Lewis and Clark sesquicentennial to be celebrated this year in Portland. Tickets are on sale at the Bank Drug store in Prineville. Entire proceeds will go into the Soropti mist benefit fund to complete their pledge to pioneer Memorial hospital. GRANT, Women's Director Elks to Give Dance Course For Members Regular Saturday night dances are scheduled for the coming weeks at the Elks hall, and this Saturday night, the first lesson will be given in the South American dancing course. Some two dozen couples are signed up for the dancing lessons, which will cover such steps as the mambo, samba, rhumba and tan go. The instructors are Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stoll of Portland The lessons will be given each Saturday from 7:45 to 9:45 p.m., for six weeks. Regular Saturday night dances will follow, starting at 1U o ciock. After -10 music this Saturday night will be provided by a local dance band led by Ed Thomas. A St Patrick's dance is planned for 'March 19. A Portland floor show has been engaged for the oc casion, and Larry Keown s orches tra will play. 4-H Club News GLEN VISTA GARDEN CLUB By Annette Heden The Glen Vista 4-H garden club has been reorganized, with Rich ard Heden as local leader. The name Speedy Weeders was chosen. Meetings will be held the first and third Wednesday each month. Officers were elected as follows: President, James Dahlheim; vice- president, Annette Heden; secre tary, Jacequeline Schooler; report er, Annette Heden; song leader, John Fenton; program leader, Mike Busche. Sons of Norway will hold a reg ular meeting Saturday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Norway hall. Re freshments will be served follow ing the business session. Roseanne Curtis led the flag pledges. Roll call was answered with names of sewing tools. Laura Dudley outlined plans made by the Junior Leaders for observance of National 4-H week. Work was done on projects, and a while elephant sale was held. Jacquelyn Burton served refreshments. TUMALO LIVESTOCK CLUBS The Tumalo livestock clubs made a table display at the Bend branch of United States National bank, for 4-H Club Week. The dis play includes a miniature farm, trophies, and figurines of Holstein, Guernsey and Hereford cows and a Palomino horse. The exhibit is bordered with pictures, champion ship ribbons and four-leaf clovers, Materials for the display were loaned by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lamb, the Firestone store, Denny Corwin, Mannheimers, J. S. Frakes, Marion Allen, J. S. Ste phens and Jackie Martin. The display was arranged by Louis, Karen and Larry Turner, Donny Corwin, Mrs. Cal Fouts Marian Allen, Shirley Frakes and Gilbert Yoder. LAPINE CLUBS By Le Donnell The LaPine Forestry club held its first regular meeting March 8. and elected officers as follows: President, Nancy Lechner; vice president, Marion Morehouse; secretary-treasurer, Ray Anderson ; news reporter, Lee Donnell; song leader. Harry Anson; yell leader, Daron Parker. The club is made up of first and second year for estry members. The Brainy Bachelors sewing club met for the third time March 8. This 4-H club is intended to teach boys to take care of their clothes. Mrs. H. Anson is the lead er. Officers are: President, M Morehouse; vice-president, Gerald Lechner; secretary-treasurer, Ray Anderson; news reporter, Lee Don nell; song leader, Butch Angel. DAR Chapter Has Luncheon Party Mrs. Craig Coyner of Bend, state chairman of national defense for Daughters of the American Revolution, was speaker at luncheon meeting of the local chapter Saturday at the Pine Tav ern. She told about the forty-first Oregon conference, held recently in Portland. Miss Gertrude Carra way of North Carolina, national president, attended. Square dancers Planning Party The Belles and Beaux square dance club will hold a family pot luck dinner and square dance Fri day evening, March 11, at the Bendonian studio, 1001 E. Penrt avenue. Spring Date Set For Public Show The Central Oregon Antiques club will hold an antiques show and tea Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, at Westminster Hall in Redmond. Preliminary plans were made at a meeting Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. E. Jossy. . Antiques from some of the out standing collections in Central Ore gon will be exhibited, with appro priate table settings. New Citizens Felicitated On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. George Churchill win received tncir linal American citizenship papers Tuesday, cole brated the occasion by holding open house that evening at their home at 1046 E. 9th street. Mr. and Mrs, Churchill came to Amer ica five and a half years ago from tngland, and have made their home in Bend since that time. Refreshments were- served from' a !ace-covered table decorated the patriotic color scheme. The centerpiece was a small American flag on a standard, flanked by bouquets of red and white flowers with blue' ribbon. Mis. Churchill wore a bouffant red taffeta frock with a corsage of white carnations Churchill is president .of Bend Community Players, has been ai tive in Central Oregon square dancing and pultern dancing groups, and Is a volunteer on the Bend' Fire department. All, of these groups were represented at the party, and some 50 friends of the couple attended. A number of foreign - born American citizens were present to congratulate the Churchills. and members of the War Brides club attended in a body, after their regular meeting earlier in the evening. "We want to thank everyone who has been so kind to us," Churchill said, today. "March 8 is a date we will never forget," his wife added. The following mem bers were present: Cindy Davis, Claire Bucknum, Joan Wachter, Linda Lee, Shade Roberts and Leslie Johnson. Both leaders, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. E. M. Bucknum, were there. Donna Leagjeld, who plans to become a member, was a visitor. Joan Wachter and Leslie John son made and served a milk-and berry drink. At the next meeting, we will make hamburgers. NEEDLE- AND THREAD By Jacqueline Schooler The Needle and Thread Sewing club held their third meeting last week at the home of Nancy and Marilyn Bigelow. Demonstrations for future meel- ings were discussed and mem bers- were appointed to be in charge of them. Games were led by Cheryl Pat-tinson. Mrs. Robert Y. Thornton, Salem for offering the course lo the pub lic. The organization meeting will bo held at 7:30 p.m. Monday March M, in Room 206, Bend high school. Class fees, including a complete kit of materials, will be $2.50 for AAUW members and $3.50 for non-members. The complete program for the course has been coordinated by Mrs. W. A. Van Hise, chairman of the study group. Meetings will be held each Monday and Wednesday, with the Wednesday meeting ue voted to guest speakers and the Monday meetings to discussion and summary. On March 16, J. W. Saunders, president of Western Investor's Fund, Portland, will speak on in vestments. March 23, Ben Fan ning, Bend branch of U.S. National Bank, will discuss banking serv ices, trusts, and wills. March 30, Eugene Bucknum, Bend realtor, will speak on real estate. Ray Yarnes, Bend branch First Nation al Bank, will discuss Finance on April 6. April 13, and 20 will bo dcvolcd to insurance with Hie speaker to be announced later. Fi nal meeting will be April 25, with summary of course and discussion of final guest presentation.
