m III il Olson Awarded Decision Over Rocky Castellani ;r JBy SCOTT BAILIK United Preim Sports Writer , .. SAN FRANCISCO (UP) Carl ,(Bobo) Olson shuffled home to his wife and four kiddies today with ,', the world's middleweight crown mm on nis Darning head and 32b, '". 000 stuffed into his back pocket. :i! That's what the relentless Ha waiian picked up Friday night for - chopping out a unanimous 15-round decision over Rocky Castellani of .. . Cleveland, Ohio, before a crowd of 11,873 at the Cow "Palace. It - marked the second time that Olson ..; had defended his title since he de feated Randy Turpin of Great Brit- -ain for the championship last Oc tober. , '... Castellani got the, leavings of Olson's healthy guarantee 60 per cent of the net gate receipts, which grossed $121,470 plus another 60 per cent of radio and TV rights ; These went for about $75,000. - The bout bore some overtones of the Olson-Kid Gavilan meeting in Chicago last April. The Cuban Kid asserted that a bruised right hand thwarted his bid for the title and Castellani came out of Fri day night's mill claiming a frac . tured left, thumb. 1 Rocky Fast Afoot ; . "Rocky said he cracked it in the ftecunu rouna against uison s el bow. Dr. Don Lastretto. state Ath etotic .Commission physician, said - tjjat the challenger - had suffered h. -cnippea iraciure oi tne leu ,.. thumb and called for an x-ray. , But this handicap did not stop ' the kid from the coal mines of . Luzerne, Pa., from fighting his kind of a fight back pedalling irom tne pressing uison and cut mg loose at times with desperate counter punches. One of these, a rlEht cross dropped Olson for a two count in the 11th round. But the spindly legged . champion uncorked a smashing right cross to the .law in the next round which spun Cas- tellanl to the canvas for the count of nine. Those were the hottest rounds of the fight, which otherwise fol- lowed the pattern of the hunter and the hunted. The stole Olson constantly plodded through Castel lani's stream pf left jabs to batter the challenger with left and right combinations to the head and land sickening left hooks to the mid--;section. . .' . Voting All Bobo TJ-Judge Fred Apostoli voted the fight to Olson 85-80 while Judee Jack Downey scored it 87'4-77V4 apd Referee Ray Florcs 89-76. Little Don Liddle shrugged off his role as he stood wringing wet on a scale and registered 157 pounds after notching his sixth vic tory, a 4-0 three-hit shutout over the Pirates that kept the Giants two full games ahead of Brooklyn and 6V4 games over his ex-Mil waukee teammates. , Liddle doesn't smart games often and he has become known as the throw-in pitcher in the big deal with the Braves, which doesn't dis- luru mm in uie ic-aai. r "But even thoueh Johnny An- tonelll has won 18, I will always feci in my heart if we win the pennant that my six victories ori Jamboree Set At Prineville For Sept. 3 The Central Oregon Football jamboree, thought to he out this year, has been scheduled for the night of Sep. 3, at Prineville. Bui it may be the last year for me an nual event. Recent interpretation of nn O.- S.A.A. ruling will permit practice to start early enough this year to make the four-team jamboree pos sible. But if the rule remains in effect next year, limiting pre season practice, the event will probably be canceled. This year's jamboree will pit Bend and Madras against Red mond and Prineville. ' It's a continuous football game, each team playing both opponents and Inking over the ball from its companion team every other quar ter. Starting time will be 8 p.m. at Prineville. Fre-game activities promise to be colorful, including performances ny tne nign suiiooi hands. however many I may win were a factor, too," he said today. Liddle held Pittsburgh to three singles while Don Mueller supplied all the Giant punch with a grand slam homer. It marked the fourth straight complete game for Man ager Leo Durocher's rejuvenated pitching staff- all wins. The Indians boosted their Ameri can League lend to 3'4 games by defeating the Urioles, 7-2, while the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, 4-3. The White Sox stayed 8H behind in third place by topping Detroit the first American Leaguer to win 18 games and regained the strike put lead with 134, adding six. The Dodgers hung on gamely by topping the Phillies, 6-4, handing Robin Roberts his 11th defeat against 18 victories by puttina'over four runs in-the first tto innings on homers, by Cart Furillo and Duke Snider. Sandy Amoros also clouted one for Brooklyn. Billy Loes gained credit for his ninth win and seventh in a row. However, Milwaukee lost a full game of ground by suffering a 3-1 setback in Chicago to the Cubs and Cincinnati took over fourth place from Philadelphia by defeat ing the Cardinals, 3-2, on the sew enth victory of Joe Nuxlinll. Washington and Philadelnhia in the American were rained out. Bob Rush, after a shaky start, pitched steadily to win his eighth game for the Cubs and substitute center fielder Bob Talbot Tilione at bat by getting throe hils to score all three- runs against llil- wnukee. The Cardinals, in losing, tied a National League record by making six double plays. They wore the seventh team ever to do it. Larry Doby had a two-run triple and Al Rosen a two-run homer in a productive first inning that enabled Cleveland to coast to its victory. It was Baltimore. s 10th straight defeat. Art Hnuttemnn won his 13th game but Hnl New houser helped him by stopping a rally In the seventh and shutting out the Orioles thereafter. Willnrd Nixon pitched four-hit ball to beat the Yankees for the fourth time this season and also drove in the winning run at Bos ton with an eighth inning double, Bill Skowron homered for the Yan kees.
