Phantom Sniper
Strikes Again

Weary police today intensified -an
all-out search for the phantom
sniper after a youth was felled
on a darkened street by another
mystery ouuet last nignt.
As fear struck still another
neighborhood only four days be
fore Christmas, detectives began
a door-to-door patrol for the am
bush assailant of 16-year-old
Oeorge Haller, a high , school
Junior.
Haller was hit in the left shoul
der by a small caliber slug, trade
mark of the elusive sniper, while
walkin'g home five miles from
the house where a young mother
was shot to death by an un
known gunman Saturday night.
One Dead. Eight Hurt
The boy was the latest victim
in the frightening toll oi mys
terious shootings which now in
clude one dead, eight wounded
and seven persons shot at In the
past tnree months, lie was not
seriously hurt.

with 37 men aboard haa been lo
cated 8,000 feet up a mountain -near
Bagulo, on Luzon, an air :
force spokesman said today.
The pilot who sighted the
wreckage from the air could not
see any- sign ot movement near
the plane. A ground rescue squad ,
was ordered to the scene. '
The plane was en route from
Okinawa -to Clark field, Manila.
It crashed on a ledge of Mt. Ta
bayog, 28 miles northeast of Ba
gulo, where use of a parachute
crew- or ncucoptcr in rescue op:
eratlons is Impractical. '
The rescue squad will not reach
the scene for several days, the
spokesman said.

Patrolman Joseph Gould didn't
kiss but told.
He testified In court yesterday
that while Investigating an auto
mobile accident he found a pretty
divorcee who had suffered a
couple of bumps on her head.
He asked If she wanted to go to
a hospital. .
"No," she said, "Just kiss the
bumps and that will make me bet
ter." :
"That," Gould said, VI refused :
to do." The divorcee was fined $35
for drunken driving. . . ..
