Rebekah Assembly President Makes Local Official Visit Mrs. Helen Ri Davis of Seaside, resident of the Rebekah assem bly of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Oregon, paid her official visit to the local Rebekah iiee at a special meeting Friday 7ght in the IOOF hall. Mrs. May Anderson, Klamath Falls, and Mrs. Garnet Draper, Eugene, president and vice-president respectively, of the Assocla--tion' of Ladies Auxiliaries. Patri arch Militant, pf Oregon, were guests, . The meeting followed the regu lar session of the ladies auxiliary, Patriarch Militant, No. 19. The date had been scheduled by both presidents for their official visits to the Bend groups, but Mrs. Anderson changed to a later date, in deference to the assembly president. - , . A tableau of the Bible story of Hannah and the angel, portrayed bv Mrs. J. J. Berrigan and Mrs. Earl Weber; with narrative by Mrs. A. B. Burleigh, concluded the program. Gift Is Presented -After the president's address she was presented a gift by. Mrs. Howard Besson,. noble grand, on behalf of the lodge. Miss Kathryn Li Kelley read an original poem while the assembly president . Attend Convention The state officers were also present, at the 37th annual con ventlon of Rebekahs of district No. 29, last Saturday in Madras, when Mrs. Clara Smith and Mrs. L. P. Cox of the Bend lodge re ceived special recognition. At the afternoon meeting, the president gave an. address on "Success Through Service." The Madras lodge served a noon luncheon, and a banquet at 6 n.m. was well attended. Climax of the convent Inn wns the initiation of- new members. with Bend , lodge No. 208 in- charge. . ' Room Mothers ' Committees, Named for PTC Room mothers and committee chairmen for the new school year were appointed at the first fall meeting of the Yew Lane Pnren. Teacher club, Monday evening at the school. Room mothers were named as follows: First grade, Mrs. Joe Slate; steond grade, Mrs. Lester Wolf; third grade, Mrs. Hugh Fountain; fourth grade, Mm. Ar thur Crawshaw, Mrs. Howard Thompson. . Committee chairmen include: Refreshment, Mrs. Mike Gassner; publicity, Mrs. Thompson; pro gram, Mrs. Crawshaw. Mrs. Har old Walters, and Mrs. John F. Doi-sch were also named to serve on the program committee. After the business meeting, col ored films on Hawaii were shown by the teaching staff, who had charge ol the program, the pic tures told the story of sugar cane cultivation, and the processing of the sugar. Mrs. Valborg Fisher head teacher, also demonstrated the school s small movie camera. Refreshments were served by the teachers and officers. The affair was sponsored by Beta Alpha chapter of ESA sorority, as a benefit for the crippled children's hospital at Eugene. Toastmistress Club Holds First Fall Meeting At their first meetine of the new term, Monday evening, at the fine tavern, members of the Bend Toastmistress club participated in coordinated program dealing with the objectives of the club for the coming year. Mrs. Byron Seeley, as topic mis tress, opened the discussion of the evening. Extemporaneous talks were given by Mrs. J. E. West, Miss Kathryn Kelley, Mrs. Ralph waner, Mrs. Walter tcmard. Mrs. Elsie Dunn, Mrs. Hehry Casiday, Mrs. Howard Cox and Mrs. J. A. Dudley. Mrs. West, as lexicologist, con ducted a drill on words commonly used and mispronounced. Mrs. Arthur Brinson was toast mistress for the evening. Pre pared speeches were given by Mrs. George Marshall, Mrs. W. M. Loy and Mrs. -W. E. Parsons.
