'I1mrdyii nnil Sulur.lny) Wood-Henderson Wedding Is Church Affair Sunday Nighf A lovely holiday wedding was solemnized Sunday evening at the Methodist church, when Miss Laura Henderson became the bride of Donald Wallace Wood. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Henderson, of Nehalem. Wood is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd D. Wood, of 14G4 Ithaca, Bend. Rev. Ross Knotts performed the double-ring ceremony at 8 p.m., in the presence of a large group of friends and relatives of the couple. Mrs. Bernice Towner, at the organ, played the traditional wedding marches and accompan ied Tom Gessner, of Redmond, 1 who sang "Because." The chancel was decorated with baskets of white chrysanthe mums, and tall candelabra held lighted tapers. Christmas decora tions provided an effective back ground, with greenery and red candles marking the pews. . Bride Wears Satin The bride was given in mar- Sunshine Club Has Christmas Party At Leland Home Thirty-two Pythian Sisters were present at the Sunshine club's an nual Christmas party, held last Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Leland, on Drake road. Entertainment in cluded a program, games, group singing and an exchange of gifts. Mrs. Claude Kelley, Mrs. M. B. Smith, Mrs. G. H. Davis, Jr., Mrs. Stanley Reimer and Mrs. W. F.. McFadden took part in a skit. Mrs. C. V. Silvis entertained with a chalk talk and a reading in Swedish dialect, and Mrs. C, P. Becker gave a musical reading, accompanied by Mrs.' R. D. Ketchum. Gifts were distributed after the program, with Nelson Leland In the role of Santa Claus. There was a short business meeting, with Mrs. Smith presiding, and refreshments were served by a committee which included Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. R. E. Shumate, Mrs. Cecil Hollinshead and Mrs. Harry Kissel. Mrs. H. D. Hamilton, Mrs. Ketchum and Mrs. Davis were in charge of enter tainment. " ' I . Cocktail Party Is Festive Affair A gay holiday affair was the cocktail party given Sunday after noon at the Copper Room by Mr. and. Mrs. Kirk H. Edmonson. More than 100 people were pres ent, including several from out of town. Appropriate decorations made a colorful background, and attrac tive hois d'oeuvres were served buffet style from a large table. She wore a gown of old ivory slipper satin, detailed with full train, tight-fitting bodice closed at the back with tiny but tons, and long sleeves, pointed at the wrists. Embroidery of fine seed pearls trimmed the peplum and collar. Her fingertip veil, edged with lace, was gathered to a Mary Stuart cap. She carried a bouquet of gardenias, with white satin streamers. Mrs. James Breedlove Was hor sister's matron of honor. ,. She wore a gown of dusty blue satin and carried a crescent bouquet of pink and white chrysanthemums. Junior bridesmaids were Miss Mary King, In pink net over sat in, and Miss Joan Chlopek, in yel low moire taffeta. They carried colonial nosegays of white chry santhemums, centered with roses that contrasted with their gowns. Miss King's were yellow and Miss Chlopek's were pink. Ben Zakit, of Sisters, acted as best man. Ushers were Jack Voos, of Sisters, and Tom Gessner. Reception Ik Held After the wedding, a reception was held in the fireside room of the church. Mi's. Towner played incidental music Mrs. James Breedlove cut the cake, Mrs. T. A. King poured the coffee, and Mrs. Percy Madden poured the tea. As sisting with the serving were Mrs. Paul South, Mrs. William Boody, Mrs. Ed Warner and Mrs. Tony Peterson. Miss Mary King had charge of the guest book. Out-of-town guests present for the wedding included Miss Phyllis Henderson, of Tillamook, sister of the bride, and Harry Wood, Mill City, grandfather of the bride groom. The bridal couple will live In Bend, at 1415 West Ninth street. Before her marriage, the bride was employed as a secretary at the Pacific Power and Light com pany's office. She was educated in Nehalem. Wood, who is emDloved bv Owl Taxi company, is a veteran of world war II, having spent two years witn tne atxtn Marine divi sion in the South Pacific. He is the grandson of Mrs. E. W. Shep ard, of Portland, and the late Rev. E. Wallace Shepard. Pre-nuptlal entertaining for the bride included shower parties for which Mrs. T. A. King and Mrs. Frank LeMaster were hostesses. Local Couple Wed Friday Mr. and Mrs. John F. Burpee (Junlece Gillls) are expected to return tomorrow from a honey moon trip to Portland. They were married Friday morning al an in formal ceremony al the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hunnell, 374 East Greenwood. The vows wore exchanged in the presence of family members and a few close friends, with Rev. Allan Phllp, of First Presbyterian church, officiating. M,r. and Mrs. Hunnell were'the couple's attend ants. The bride chose a suit with pink Jacket and black skirt, wprn with black accessories. Mrs. Hunnell wore a brown suit, and both hud corsages of pink roses. Mr. and Mrs. Burpee will live at 323 Congress. He is district manager of the Northern Life In surance company, and she is a teller at the Bend branch of U. S. National bank. She is a daughter of C. L. Simpson, of Bend. Betrothal News Told in Portland Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Longballa, of 107 Drake, road, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Kay Madrienne Longballa, to James Brennan La turners, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis S. Lammers, 740 Riverside drive, Bend. Miss Longballa told the news to college friends at a party Monday eve ning in Portland, at the home of Miss Joanne Lindberg, 2031 Ridg wood drive. The wedding will take place on Feb. 19, In Portland. Miss Longballa was graduated last June from Oregon State col lege, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pi. She is a mem ber of the faculty of Parkrose high school in Portland. Lammers, who attended Port land university and Oregon State college, is employed in Portland at the main office of General Pe troleum corporation. SORORITY HAS PARTY Members of Epsilon Sigma Al pha soroity and their guests join ed in a Christmas party Saturday evening at the Rim Rock club rooms. Dancing was included in the evening's entertainment, and refreshments were served. A past president's pin was pre sented to Mrs. Dale Curtis. ' CHRISTMAS PARTY PLANNED The auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will hold a Christ mas party Thursday at 8 p.m. in the F.O.E. hall on Wall street. Lunch will be served and a pro gram of entertainment presented. Gifts, not to exceed $1 in value, are to be exchanged, the commit tee in charge reports. Stork Shower Is Given Recently Mrs. W. T. Griffin entertained last week at her home on South Third street, at a stork shower honoring Mrs. Wayne Alberlus. A blue and white cradle centered the gift table. Those participating In the af fair were Mrs. D. T. Hundley, Mrs. Hans Block, Mrs. Harold Weathers, Mrs. Emil Graham, Mrs. Robert H. I-ee, Mrs. Bruno Huslick and Mrs. Vein Key. Games were played and coffee and cookies were served. v Club Women Have Christmas Party Thirty-nine members oi ttie Bond Business and Professional Women's club were present at the Christmas party held last Friday evening in the Pine tavern dining room. An attractive supper was served, followed by entertain ment, group singing, a feift ex change and card games. Members of the high school dramatics department, under di rection of Miss Grace Mary Linn, presented a one-act play, "Pop Reads 'The Christmas Carol'." In the cast were Gerald Wood, Paula Smith, Paul Rhoads, Janis Jap pert, Ronald Walker, Norma Kel say and Clarence Newman. Mrs. P. R. Buckingham was chairman of the committee ar ranging the party, assisted by Mrs. L. E. Bain and Mrs. Othor J. Scott. 8. O. Watson, 55, Multnomah county as sessor, died last night at the Vet erans hospital here. He had been in the hospital since July 12. E. Smith, auctioneer, bought out his partner, Dodney Ruse brook, and is now the sole owner of Reiimond community auction ring. ItOKObrook bought his inter est during the summer from Smith. Assisting C. E. (Tommy) Thompson, president of Redmond chamber of commerce for 1949, are Jay Shlvely, vice president; Dr. Charles Dudley, second vice president; Phil Furrell and Roy Carpenter, new directors; and Jim Short, Marlon Coyner, Roy Newell, and Ralph H.'Oick, hold over directors. New officers will assume their duties at the first meeting in January. Redmond Toastmaster's club, having acquired 20 members, ap plied for its charter last week, H. O. Van Hise is president of the club. Dale Charlton was toast master ut the Thursday meeting in the Redmond hotel banquet room. , McDanlel Motor company sent Jeff McDanlel, Dale Moore and Pete White to a school conducted by Kaiser-Frazer agency in Port land last week. Redmond high school band, di rected by Franklin de Lesplnasse, escorted Santa into town Satur day morning. Dorothy's Flower shop has moved into the building formerly occupied by the Fix-it shop. Mrs. Selma Stillwel operates the shop with the assistance of her daugh ter, Mrs. Egg. Borden Beck, Jr., was one of two candidates to represent Ore gon in the final examination for Rhodes scholarships held last Sat urday at Spokane. Borden is studying law at Harvard at the present time. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Borden Beck, Sr., who formerly lived in Redmond. Beck will be remembered as the voca tional agriculture instructor at Redmond union high school. Construction of un agricultural building for Redmond union high school will be the topic for discus sion tonight at the high school when the school board, the offi cial budget committee, and the special advisory committee meet. The public may attend. Howard Mayfield and sons, Bill and Wayne, have leased the Mc Call ranch on Crooked river for Glee Club Gives Christmas Songs Prinevllle, Dec. 21 No group of Prlneville is more active in spreading good cheer during the pre-Yule days than the girls' glee club of the Crook county high school, which Is directed by Wil bur Peterson. Mixed choruses oi the club visited the J. C. Penney three years. The McCalls will re tain use of their home. In Febru ary Sam McCall will leave for California to attend the Univer sity of California where he will take a graduate course in history. Parking meters will be given a one year trial in Redmond. They will be installed within the next few weeks. W.C.T.U. mot at the home of Mrs. Marshall Akins Thursday with Mrs. Jack Mitchell in charge of the program. After the busi ness meeting and program, the association packed five boxes for tne cnuurens home. Mrs. w. k. McLaren led the devotions, and the members sang Christmas car ols at the close of the session. Church of Christ will be organ ized in Redmond under the lead ership of Rev. G. Earl McCay, of Springfield and Eugene. The group will meet in the Redmond grange hall. Twenty-one members and guests of the Areme club met at the home of Mrs. G. A. Edwards Tuesday evening.
