All sections of the list shared the late downturn. Rails, which had been showing strength ear lier in the day, broke to net losses with Union Pacific giving up vir tually all of a 3-point rise. In the steel group U. S. Steel dropped more than a point while Bethlehem had a fractional de cline. Oils, motors, coppers, amusements and mercantile shares were forced down. Wall Street ascribed the decline to technical factors. The bulk of the selling came between 2:30 and 2:45 p. in. and the tickers caught up before the close after having run as much as one minute behind floor trans actions.
