The statement was contained in ' telegrams sent to government, state, and Alaskan officials re-: questing federal aid in repairing1 damage caused by two recent severe storms. I The telegrams said "the un-' precedented destruction of Nome; by two severe storms within three i weeks, preceded by the havoc of last year's storm, makes absolute-1 ly necessary federal aid in build-. Ing a suitable breakwater or dis continuance of the city." ' Nome merchants are "unable to withstand the expense of year ly constructed defenses to cope with the rapid erosion of the Nome beach, and present city tax revenue Is inadequate to aid in repair work," the telegrams said. Officials estimated the damage caused by the two storms the past throe weeks amounted to more than $500,000. Family in Tent Loses Daughter . Eugene, Ore., Nov. 21 tir S. L. Wells, war veteran, today was still looking for - housing after his 5-year-old daughter died of pneumonia while his family was living in a navy surplus tent to which it had moved after be ing evicted from their home. The girl, Delores, died at a hos pital after the family of five had moved into the 16 by 16 tent. Mrs. Wells also has been under a doc tor's care. The Wells have two sons, Gary 8, and Dickie, 7.
