Mallery, both of Redmond, waived indictment by the grand jury and pleaded guilty to a lar ceny charge, when they appeared in circuit court' late yesterday afternoon before Judge K. S. Hamilton. They were placed cn five years probation. The pair were charged on in formation given the district at torney, and waived both time to enter plea and time for passing sentence. They had been arrested for larceny of 75 turkeys In the value of S450, from Norman L. Robinson of Redmond. L. W. Franks, Roy Newell and Ralph B. They paid Robinson $474.30 for the stolen turkeys.. Veterans' Bureau To Have Holiday The veterans' contact bureau in the O'Kane building will close to- HaIVey Latham, administrator. The office will also be closed Jan. 1, he said. At the same time, a new office schedule was announced. The of fice will be open from 9 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. on week days, and from 8 a. m. to 12 noon on Satur days. Hours were formerly 8 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. Gorge Whipped By High Winds Portland, Ore., Dec. 21 (Ui Al though a few motorists were, re ported "getting through" the 1 Columbia river highway, state police today warned motorists they were liable to be blown off the highway by an S0-mllean hour wind and that both the Washington and Oregon sides were still coated with ice and snow. The wind was reported on the Washington side around Cape Horn. 1 r r Prices Probable Washington, Doc. 21 HP The agriculture department soon will announce a 1046 egg price sup port program which may cost trie government $200,000,000, It was learned today. ; Even though eggs are scarce at the moment, the department fears production next year may lie GOO.000,000 more dozens than consumers will be willing to buy. i The worst market glut is antici-1 pated between early March and ! June. ! If this large surplus material- ' ized it could bring a price collapse worse than two years' ago when eggs sold for as little as 15 cents , a dozen. The government will seek to prevent that. It is committed by law to support prices at the farm level at 90 per cent of parity, or about 29 cents, according to the department's latest estimate. Program Outlined The price support program will be designed to give farmers this return of 29 cents a dozen but as a national average, not individ ually. For instance, farmers in the "midwest will be guaranteed only an average of 27 cents a dozen, and then only if the eggs they offered meet department standards. Eggs in the big city markets on the east and west coasts are ex-j pectea to Dring nigner prices iu . pull the national average up to support levels. The central states, "the egg basket ot the United States," produce 60 per cent of the. nation's supply and their prices historically lag about two cents behind coastal areas.
