Railroad Shares
Make New Gains

road shares advanced to new
highs for more than eifjht years
today to feature a firm, moderate
ly active stock market session.
Several Individual features
stood out In the other sections of
the market. Sears Roebuck spurt
ed more than 5 points on rumors
the stock will be split up. Philip
Morris gained more than 4 points
on announcement of a 2-for-l
stock split. American Can rose 3
points and Du Pont 2Vi.
The vise in rails began late
Thursday and has been Increas
ing in momentum since then. The
stocks responded to Improved
earnings, higher dividends In
some Instances and estimates of
a good year ahead. The rail
strength In turn stimulated buy
ing in other sections of the list.
New York Central featured the
market in volume. Also active
were Delaware, Lackawanna &
Western, Baltimore & Ohio, Le
high Valley, and Northern Pacific
which made new highs. Nickel
Plato gained 2M points. Pullman
made a new high In a better rail
equipment market.

School District No. 2 of Deschutes
County, State of Oregon, at the
Bend High School Building in said

submitting to the legal voters of

creasing the tax levy for the year
1945-46 over the amount limited
by section 11, article XI, of the
Constitution of Oregon.
The reasons for increasing such
levy are:
