increased on the stock market to
day as prices continued to move
higher in an departments.
Gains ranged to two points or
more in special issues. The lead
ing groups improved fractionally
with the utility average reaching
a new high since April 21, 1937.
Dividends news - continued to
sway individual issues and to help
the general market. Real Silk
Hosiery reached a new high on
a. gain of more than a. point on
directors' action in paying off
S15 arrears on preferred stock.
f Johns-Manville, which raised its
dividend yesterday, rose two
ints. Allied stores reached an
other new high on its dividend
rise. American Telephone, which
maintained its $235 regular
quarterly rate in enect for many
years, made a new high on a small
gain.
