Help Not Needed
In Taking Roe
Employees of the state game
commission currently taking fish
eggs at the mouth of Snow creek
at Crane prairie, expressed sur
prise yesterday, when a party of
Bend sportsmen showed up ready
to relieve the "overworked crew"
they expected to find after reading
the report on the roe taking op
erations in Wednesday's Bulletin.
The eager sportsmen found
their service not required and the
game commission crew more than
kppping ahead of the spawners en
tering the traps each night.
Asked about the estimated take
of 6,000,000 eggs previously re
ported, Vallard Stokoe, hatchery
foreman advised that 11 was im
possible to make an estimate of
the possible take, Inasmuch as
such operations had not been car
(ried on for several years and there
ore no recent statistics upon
which ,to base such an estimate.
He added that he had made no
estimate inasmuch as the total
take would depend entirely upon
the length of the spawning run.
