    Trading Increases
On Stock Market
By Elmer C. Walzer
(United Preu Financial Editor)
New York, March 21 IP Trad
ing increased on the stock market
today as a decline rounded out
its third day. Prices receded frac
tions to more than 2 points with
the general average at a new low
since February 2.
Toward closing time many is
sues advanced: their lows, but a
majority retaineddeclines. There
were a few strong exceptions, in
cluding Pere Marquette issues, up
as much as 3 pointson resumption
of dividends after an 8-year, lapse
on the prior preference stock;
and Nickel Plate issues, up as
much as 514 points in the pre
ferred on announcement ol plans
to refund nearly $60,000,000 of the
road's bonds.
Against the market at this time,
according to the experts, was gov
ernment pressure to check spec
ulation, the forthcoming seventh
war loan, continued favorable war
news, and the recently increased'
margin requirements especially
on the low-priced stocks.

Change Is Made
In Potato Sales
Because of changes In the defi
nitions of certified seed potatoes
and "war approved" seed pota
toes, such potatoes sold for table
use must be sold as "table stock"
potatoes, at or below the celling
prices established for table stock
potatoes, W. H. MeGargar, OPA
food price executive said today.
It has never been intended, Me
Gargar said, that seed- potatoes
sold for table use should be sold
at seed potato ceiling prices at
any level of distribution.
This action, which becomes ef
fective March 24, 1945, is neces
sary because Information received
by. OPA indicates that fai
producers and carlot distributors
of potatoes have been selling cer
tified and "war approved" seed
potatoes for table use at seed no.

Yes, there ia still a tire shortage. The reason ia simple, the
needs of our Armed Forces come , first But you can help
lick the tire shortage in many easy ways that take only a
minute or two of time or a little extra care in driving. And
we can help you lick the tire shortage by stretching the
mileage in your present tires. Our men are trained tire
specialists. They make careful, complete tire inspections . . .
the kind that help to spot trouble before it happens. They're
trained, too, in making strong, durable repairs that last
as long as the tire.
