The Bend USO dub's ttrst Christmai season was enhanced by two enthusiastically-received , concerts Sunday afternoon, f The afternoon opened with ' program by the children's choir of the First Lutheran church, dir ected by Mrs. J. A. Dudrey and as compa riled by Mrs. Morris Thomp son. Following the children's pro gram, the regular Sunday after noon music concert arranged by Mrs. Mary Anderson of the USO music committee featured a spec ial group of Christmas, anthems by the nign scnooi girls' cnoir, di rected by C Dale Robbins. Crowding the USO club for both programs were Camp Abbot sold iers, who listened reverently to the Christmas songs which re minded them of their homes over the country. When the children entered, clad In white surplices, the men bared their heads and stood at attention, in a salute to happy childhood and Christmas two of the things for which they are preparing to light. Mrs. Anderson and C. J. Iindh, also of the committee, witnessed both presentations and were warm in their praise of the young people's efforts to emulate their elders in "doing something" for our soldiers. Taking part In the Lutheran children's choir concert were the following: Burdett Dale, Shirley Eggen, Colleen Silken, Beverly Christiansen, Shirley Padgett, Norma Jane Padgett, Judy Hu stad, Delores Anderson, . Arleen Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, Jack ie Nystrom, Marlon Jacobsen, Ina Iverson, Betty Krueger, and Mary Winter. , The members of the high school girls' choir included: Helen Bail ey, Dordine CrandaU, Ruth Conk lin, Grace Danielson, Elaine Day, Ruth Devereaux, Cleone Garlick, Margaret Garske, Louis King, Dixie Kellogg, Helen Larson, Madeline Palmer, Bertha Thomp son, Mary Twomey, and Beverley Wixmenstrom. Following the formal program, , Robbins led the soldiers and Wacs r in singing carols. Mrs. Anderson has announced that the Kenwood school child ren's chorus will sing at the USO Wednesday evening at 7:30, and the children of St. Francis Catho lic church will present a program next Sunday afternoon at 4:15. An added touch to Sunday's events was the Christmas decora tion theme in the club holly, lighted tree, and a glowing seven branched candelabra on the stage, loaned by Mrs. Anderson. N.O.W.' Holds Christmas Fete an added cheerful effect to the Moose hall last Thursday evening when the Neighbors of Woodcraft held their Yule party. After a pot luck supper, a program of read ings was presented by Maureen . Misner and Van and Darleen Haupt. Those present at the party were: Mr and Mrs. Charles Wil son, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Long, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gough and grand daughter, Maureen Misner; Mrs. Frances Cook and daughter, Lu clla; Mrs. Jackson Kelley, Miss Kathryn Kelley, Mrs. Roy Win ters, Mrs. Thomas Fagg, Lavern Fagg, Mrs. Lillian Drost, Mrs. Mary Midwood, Mrs. Mary Haupt, Alice Dodge, and Van and Darleen Haupt. Bend Giri Wed Here Recently The wedding of Miss Ruth John son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson of Bend,-to Cpl. C. S. Boyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Boyer of Tiff, Mo., took place recently at the home of the bride's parents. The couple, who are making their home here while Cpl. W. held a buffet supper at the home of Mrs. William Niskanen last Thursday evening. The turkey- and-trimmlngs were enjoyed by the guests in the living room. which was lighted by a large Christmas tree and a cheerful hearth fire. After an exchange of white ele phant gifts, the members worked on layettes for Russian relief while the hostess played special Christmas recordings. Mrs. Barbara Steinhauser was general chairman for the affair. M. W. A. to Meet Tonight Mod ern Woodmen of America will elect officers tonight at 8 o'clock at the Moose hall, and all mem bers are urged to attend the meet ing. . Sons of Norway Schedule Yule And Jan. 1 Fetes Sons of Norway will hold a Christmas party Monday at 7:30 p. m. In Norway hall for children of the members. Parents are ask ed to prepare their children to take some part in the evening's program and to notify Mrs. Edna Sjkersaa at 1106 Columbia street Members are also asked to bring sandwiches to the party. Portland Rites Of Interest To Many in Bend An event of interest locally took place Dec. 11 in Portland when Miss Betsy Feasley became the bride of John Currin Veatch n, at the home of his parents: Veatch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Veatch, is a nephew of Mrs. Daisy Brown of Bend and with his par ents has spent many summers at their cabin on Elk lake. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble R. Feasley of Palo Al to, Calif., is a graduate of the Uni versity of Oregon where she was affiliated with Kappa Alpha The ta. Veatch, who Is now attending the University of Washington graduate school of business under the army's special training pro gram, is a graduate of the Univer sity of Washington, and attended the University of Oregon. He is a member of Beta Theta Pi and Phi Delta Phi. - Traditional Fete Is Postponed Because of illness In the family, Mrs. Frank Riley has been forced to postpone her annual custom of entertaining the women's associa tion of the First Presbyterian church at a Christmas party at her home. The party was sched uled for Thursday afternoon. She carried an arm bouquet of white carnations, with blossoms cascading to the floor on white satin streamers. ' Miss Edith Bradetich. the bride's sister, was maid of honor and wore a pink gown with shir red satin bodice and full chiffon skirt Her bouquet was of chrys anthemums. . Miss Esther Olsen, Miss Sylvia Bozich of Portland, Miss Louise Metke, and Miss Betty Bradetich, a sister of the bride, were brides maids and wore gowns similar to the maid of honors, two In pink and two In pale blue, and carried chrysanthemum bouquets. Bulyk, wnose otner attendants were: Capt. Robert Cosgrove, Lt. Tom Kruzic and Pvt. Alvin Ratoza, all of Camp Abbot; and Johnny Bo zich of Portland. Bennie Rasto vich and Bernard Peterson served as ushers. i Over 200 guests attended the re ception held after the ceremony at me nome oi ine Driae s parents. Featured was a beautiful five-tier ed wedding cake topped with a miniature army officer and bride. In charge of serving to the guests were the bride's mother, her aunt Mrs. George Bradetich, Mrs. Ona Mayne, Mrs. George .Rastovlch, and Miss Marie Rastovlch. Lt. and Mrs. Mulyk received a score of handsome gifts, which were dis played at the recention. Besides principals of the wed ding party, out-of-town' guests in cluded Mrs. Bozich, Mrs. Mary Ratoza, Miss Marv Ratoza. and Mrs. Mike Dragos, all of Portland. The bride was graduated from Bend high school and attended the Benhke-Walker business college in t-omana ior a year, where she re mained to take a position in Montgomery-Wards. Upon return ing to Bend, she has been working at Camp Abbot Lt. Bulyk. the son of Mr and Mrs. Michael Bulyk of New York City, attended high school there and later was a student at both New York University and City College of New York. He entered as toastmaster. - Other new officers were an nounced as vice-president, Wayne Overholser, high school teacher; and secretary, Miss Jean Webs ter, Reid teacher. - The cafeteria flaunted gay Christmas decorations in honor of the occasion at' which more than a hundred Bend teachers, their wives or husbands, and members of the school board en joyed a turkey dinner served by the high scnooi nome economics department At an informal program which followed, a puppet show was pre sented along with several skits. and the entire group sang Christ mas carols. Santa Claus was a special, and temporary, guest and an exchange of gifts was enjoyed. Canteen Corps Bakes and Serves Cookies at Camp The canteen' corps of the Des chutes county, Red Cross chapter is a popular organization with the men of Camp Abbot's station hos pital, by virtue of their response to a recent request from the hos pital Red Cross' staff. They were asked to go to the hospital during the Christmas season and bake cookies for the ambulatory pa tients who visit the lounge In the Red Cross building. Groups went Dec. 13, 16, and plan to go again on Dec. 30. , Patients are particularly en thusiastic about the way the cook ies are served right from the ov en. The women bake the sweets at the hospital kitchenette and serve them immediately. Those who assisted thus far with the canteen project are: Mrs. Marie Hunt, Mrs. C. L. McCauley, Mrs. Joy Walker, Mrs. George Euston, Mrs. B. A. Stover, Mrs. H. E. Beach, Mrs. W. A. Lackaff, Mrs. Elsie Dunn, Mrs. Elden Preston, Mrs. Lester MacKenzle, and Mrs. Lois. Hansen. the army In September, 1941, and was commissioned a second lieu tenant In the signal corps at Fort Monmouth, N. J., the next Sep tember.
