More Soap to Be Made; No Reason To Hoard Stock I A 28 per cent increase In all soaps produced for civilian use will result from a recent war food 'administration order, announces i Lois A. Lutz, extension specialist in home management. More fats and oils are being allocated for this purpose, though manufactur ers are being required to use pre scribed percentages of non-fat materials as substitutes for fats. A temporary shortage of a few types of soap on retail shelves nas been caused by consumer hoarding, according to national officials. Actually, soap stocks In 1942 were the largest on record and some of that heavy supply was on the market until the mid dle of 1943. Soap production has dropped somewhat this year, but the increase Just authorized will allow for slightly more soap per capita than in pre-war years. There Is no basis for "scare buy ing," the War Food administra tion assures housewives. . $15,000,000,000, the 3rd war loan quota, in one-dollar bills laid side by side would cover an area of approximately 62 sq. miles, or an I area almost as large as the Dis I trtet of Columbia. DAV Flower Sale To Be Saturday Under the sponsorship of the post auxiliary, the annual for-get-me-not sale of the Disabled Amer ican Veterans will be held In Bend Saturday, R. R. Brentano, D.A.V. commander, announced today. Mrs. Hugo Peters heads the aux iliary and will be directly In charge of the sale. Proceeds from the sale of the miniature flowers will be used in aiding disabled veterans. The sale will be conducted in downtown Bend.
