Others only came out once. Largest volume was in Southern Pacific and Socony-Vacuum, which held at the previous closing levels. Steel shares were better on out look for a steel operating rate just under 100 per cent of capacity. Coppers were narrowly irregular. Utilities held around the previous close whiel rails were steady to firm. A few Issues had wide changes. American Airlines lost nearly 4 points, while Vulcan Detinning Preferred gained 4 points to a new high. J. I. Case opened at 60, off 2U and failed to make another appearance. McLellan Stores gained 3 '4 points on a single sale. Thompsons tarret Preferred was off more than a point. Armour Preferred rose more than a point Small gains were noted in American Smelting, Con solidated Aircraft, Santa Fe, Dow Chemical, Douglas Aircraft, Inter national Nickel, Kcnnecott, Proc ter & Gamble, Sears Roebuck. Standard Oil (N. J.), Union Car bide and Wool worth. Dow Jones closing stock aver ages: Industrial, 11.22.51, up 0.32; rail, 27.99, up 0.06; utility, 17.75, off 0.02; and 65 stocks, 41.17. up 0.09. Stock sales approximated 130. 000 shares, the smallest short ses sion turnover since May 31, and compared with 190,000 a week ago. Curb stock sales were 27,000 shares against 36,000 last Satur day. BOSTON WOOL Boston, June 21 ilf Interest in domestic wools increased some what in Boston this week, the U. S. agriculture department reported today. Much of the interest was tor wool suitable for government or ders. Sales of a few grades of terri tory wools were slightly broader than in the previous week. Prices I were unchanged. Demand tended to slacken on the finer grades of I foreign wools. The fine grades of . bright fleece wools were inactive I at 42 to 44 cents in the grease I quoted on fine delaine and at 43 to 45 cents in the grease on combing half blood.
