Silver unchanged. By Elmer C. Walur Unit-d Pmu Financial Kditnrl New York, Jan. 21 UH- Stocks made an Irregular decline today in the most active turnover since January 10. Stocks opened irregular and then advanced under lead of steels. When the rise failed to at tract new buying traders sold and prices broke. Steels were hardest hit with U. S. Steel falling more than 2 points from its high before meeting support. Weakness in steels was attrib uted mainly to labor demands on U. & Steel and Crucible Steel. Selling spread to other sections. Railroads were exceptions. South ern Pacific featured in activity and made a small gain on news the navy department had purchas ed one of the road's steamships. Oils held well with considerable trading in Standard Oil (New Jer sey.) Paramount headed amuse ments in turnover and held steady. Utility issues eased slight ly. Mercantile shares were mixed. Chemicals weakened with losses of 3 points and more in Du Pont, Dow Chemical and Allied Chem ical. Union Carbide and Monsanto were off a point. Columbian Car bon lost IV. Most aircrafts gave up small amounts. Coppers eased with Ana conda active. American Airlines had a loss of more than 3 points. Pirelli of Italy plunged 7 points to 61 on two transactions and Sloss Sheffield was down 6. De clines of 1 to more than 2 points were made in Cleveland Graphite. HERE are the "finest of the fine." And every one of them tagged irresistibly low. Our used car stocks are heavy this month and we're seizing the opportunity to make many new friends through these great money-saving opportunities. Demand for the new Fluid Drive Dodge and the 1941 Plymouth has loaded us with these low-mileage "beauties" of all popular makes and models. Every one has been recon ditioned and guaranteed good for many thou sands of miles. You may never see such bargain feast again In years! With the possibility that na tional defense plans may curtail production of new automobiles, a shortage of good used cars may develop before many months. Our advice is to buy now... at these Clearance mark-downs. Drop around today. v KAXV CORE STARTtlXC CQXE PREPARED 1939 PLYMOUTH l-door sedan. A beauty! 'U Forty-eight "knights of the kettle" have been graduated from the training school for army cooks at nearby Langely Field after a two-months course that covered everything from setting up a field kitchen in a driving rainstorm to figuring a close kitchen budget. Among other things, the student cooks were taught the art of feed ing soldiers on as little as 41 cents a day. Most of the first "gradu ates" now designated mess ser geants, first cooks or second cooks soon will be on their way to stations in Puerto Rico or other air bases. Westinghouse Electric and W. W.
