Big Dump Trucks Stop On Way to Coulee Dam The last of ten huge dump truck, being driven from Oak land, Calif., to Coulee dam in Washington, passed through llend thlx noon. Pec. 21 tSpeciaH Tumalo grange held it last meet ing of the year Thursday evening, tiecember 19, so as to give Its regular meeting night up to the school for their program Friday evening. After a short busines session, those present decorated the hull and trimmed the Christ ma tree for the school program. Ted Becker and T. W. Vandevert went up on the McKenic pass Sunday after the tree. They also brought back a lot of fir houghs which were used lo decorate the hull. Donald Pedersen of Hamilton Field, Cat, arrived in Bend Thurs day evening to spend his Christ mas vacation at home. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Peder sen. Another son, Phillip, who is In training at Camp Murray, has written that he will be home this week-end also. Mill Works Saturday To Make Up Lost Day Making up for the day lost Mon day when the mill pond was cov ered with ice. The Shevlin-Hixon Company operated its sawmill to day, Saturday. Across the river, how ever. The Brooks - Scanlon Lumber Company Inc. observed its usual Saturday holiday. Plans for the Christmas holi days had been partly completed by the mill managements today. At the Shevlin-Hixon plant, the big mill will close Christmas eve and will be "down" Christmas day and Christmas night. At the Brooks-Scanion plant, the holiday matter was turned over to mill crews and foremen for a final decision, this to be an nounced later, probably on Mon day. The dead were: Ted Crltes, 34, Scotts mills lumberman; his wife, Mrs. Ted Crites, 33; a woman ten tatively identified as Tillie Vallet, 30, employes of Crites, and Arch Winn, 37. Salem. Seriously injured were Darleen Crites, 5, daughter of the dead couple, fractured thigh and inter nal injuries; William Winn of Tur ner, brother of Arch Winn, skull fracture; Champ C. Shepherd, of Salem, lacerations and possible in ternal injuries; Mrs. Shepherd, second degree burns. The cam driven by Crites and Winn collided head-on. A short time later, an ambulance bearing Mrs. Crites and Mrs. Vallet col lided with the Shepherd car. The Shepherd vehicle caught fire.
