S. bureau of fisheries has what is probably the most complete nnrary on world llsnenes in America, Applications for Grants . Being Received Eugene, Sept. 6 Federal aid for student;, through the national youth administration, will again bo avail able at the University of Oregon, and applications for grants are now being received, it was announced here by Karl W. Onthank, dean of personnel. A substantial increase . over the amount allotted the institution last vear. which tntulled $33,073. Is ex. pected due to increase in enrollment. Both new and old students may apply for work under the NYA ar rangement, and in addition there will be part time positions available through the university that will net students more than $120,000, Dean Onthank stated. Those include schol arships totalling $36,489, fellowships amounting lo 826,595, and funds for student help such a Janitors and as sistants, totalling $34 40. Mat year students obtained $87,535 from loan funds, and this amount is expected to be available aguin this year. Financial assistance, tnrousn posi tions and loans, was extended to moro than 1300 students last year, more than one-third of the student body. More than three-fourths of all students are partially self-supporting, more than half contribute more than 50 per cent of their expenses, while a fourth are entirely "on their own," statistics here show. '.' NYA students last year, In addition to carrying considerable work in connection with their studies, mndo an exceptionally high scholastic rec ord, the reports show. The honor roll for the three terms, which averaged 175 students, was attained by mora than one third of the NYA group, while less than five per cent o! the total student body Is Included on this list, approximately 15 per cent of the roll was made up of those work ing under NYA.
