T hi- figures further disclose that the period of the greatest flow is during April and May, In the oast and up until the time water is taken to the "ageney plains," the irrigation dislriets south of Crooked river have Uen pe-mii!ed to divert and use all the available water in the river. As oon as the water u diverted to Jef ferson county this us of water in April and May must cease and the irrigation districts south of Crooked river will be held to the amount awarded them by the court. In other words, unless storage is made avail able the amount heretofore uvd dur ing April and May will be cut in half. During the months of June, July nnd August, water for the Cen tral Oregon district will le very short while the Ione Pine district imd the Arnold district will be "n-tut-lv without water even for do mestic use. As heretofore Mated there must lx in the river 1210 see-uld-feet of natural flow before either the lxnie Pine or the Arnold can re ceive any water at all, and there must be approximately 1430 seeond feft of natural flow lefore the Cen tral system can use more than 085 seeond-feei f,f water. Tlie Central Oregon Irrigation system has used eoiitinuously and will have to ue in the fuiuie approximately l.OOu second-feet of water throughout the ir rigation sj-avm. During the jwist eight years the it coeds diM'lose iliat the irrigated lands south of (rooketl river have each year used from 25.000 to 40.030 acre-feel of stored water from Crane pn'irie. Unions th. Crane prairie dam is iecutiMruett-d. the it;e of ihir water will cense and the farmers of this see t ion will have to, in some manner, irrigate with a great deal less water than they have used in the past. When the time comes that all the ! water of the Deschutes river is uti j li.ed storage in the spring is abso lutely essential. In the past the prac I tico has been to commence irrigation j in April then shut the water off Tor Iahonl io week in the middle of Ami), followed by continuous irri- i igrttjon.
