MFBA8IBtUTY" In a persuasive dtscussion of the federal reclamation situation in this state the Oregonian last week nrseil that there was no longer reason for delay In the construction of the Baker. Owyhee and Ysle projet It. Congressional appropriations have been made and all questions of feasi bility answered, says that paper Then why. it asks, does not Secre tary Work order that construction go ahead? It is one of the annoying features of Secretary Work's administration of reclamation affairs that he has so far failed to make definite state ments concerning his policy with respect to individual projects. Con cerning reclamation in general he has had a good deal to say and par ticularly on the shortcomings and failures of former administrations. He has. as the Oregonlan says, seen appropriations made for this project ! and that and the boards appointed by his own bureau chief have pro- nounced the projects feasible but he j refrains from action and he gives no explanation. Why? We wonder if the answer to the question is not found in the state-1 ment made by Governor Pierce at ' Tumalo last week when he said in substance that Secretary Work had P told him that he felt that the only IrriKatlon project that could succeed these days was one costing not over $65 dollars per acre.
