How ltend earned the honor of having a continandcry membership equal to that of Portland was made known today when members of the local conimandery pointed out that this city won much favorable pub licity at the Seattle convention. The manner in which llend won national recognition was as follows: Some 10,000 Knights Templar were In the line of march of the great parade, with Oregon In the 11th division. This division also included I'tah. Wyoming and South Dakota. The Oregon conimandery of Port land was first in the division forma tion, while the Washington com mandery. also of Portland, brought up the rear. The unattached Knights of Oregon marched in this formation as a second division. heading the unattached group of about lion Knights were members of the Bend commandery. headed by A. A. Anderson, commander. Pre vious to falling in line. Anderson "broke ouV the Rend beauseant. bearing the words "Pilgrim Coni mandery. Knights Templar. Rend. Oregon." The Bend beauseant was the only one in the division of unattached Oregon delegates, and since it was at the lead of the column, the 500. 000 spectators who watched the pa rade took it for granted that llend was represented by some 300 dele gates. The Betid banner was cheered loudly. Realizing that the Bend beauseant brought in much favorable publicity to this city, local Knights Templar are loud in the Vralse of the foresight of Anderson, who took advantage of the Be.pti delegates' position in the line' of' march to "annex" delegates from many cities in Oregon.
