Next year it will de servedly raiia with the finest teft ;ures of Oregon's astonishing high way system. For many miles it follows thai crystal, raring river First there arc wide farms, then narrow Terms, then ram-hes. and lat er yet only the homes of 'moun taineers who have learned that the entertainment of hunters and fisher men and vacationists pays better than any crops which they can grow. There is no gainsaying the fact that the McKenzie highway from Ku gene for a considerable distance leaves much to he desired. The passage of the lava beds comes next, and here tlie road is trenched through frenzied stone, a boulevard through one of nature's terrors. The lava land passed, and the motorist coasts down the gentler eastern slope of the Cascades, through the open collonades of the pine forests, down and dow-;i like the wind, the picturesque town of Sist-T and on to bustling Itend.
