you'll travel jrayly. with songbirds in your hat." Now there
are cynics yelpful who say such talk is tosh, that words are
never helpful ami sympathy won't wash: and anyone who'll
swallow such hunk, that's vain and hollow, has for his head
a squash. They say that cordial smiling imparts no sort of
cheer, as we go Bingle-fiUng about this gloomy cheer; the
Optimist is beaten if he attempts to sweeten our little jour
ney here. But I reject their whee::es. for I was lately
felled by seventeen diseases that jarred me till I yelled; and
when these were disbanded, the words my friends out
handed all kinds of comfort held. It's when we're sore anil
stricken and find our name is Mud that cheery words will
quicken the thin anil sluggish blood: the courage that's im
parted by comrades tender hearted is certainly no dud.
