of Bend now have to consider this
business of votinc $600,000 in bonds
for wuler purposes. We have decided
ideas on the subject and shall set
than forth from day to day until the
election. At the same lime we invite
letters from our readers discussing,
any of the uapects of the mutter. In
each case we must know the name of
the writer though it will not be pub
lished If that Is the wish. letters
should be written on one side of the
paper and be kept within reasonable
length.
1'ENITENTIAL
Dark and dismal, grriro ami bleak is the prison in the

where men are free, to the saddest place on earth, where

the law to scorn." You may see them in parade, fellows
smarter than the law, tolling up the rocky grade to the
prison's dismal maw. And the cells are always filled with
the flossy birds who thought, "We're so clever, we're so
skilled, that we never will be caught."
