six cups, and sometimes eight, and then I hear the doctor
yell. "That stuff will put you in a crate! A cumulative
poison 'tis, it wrecks your system bit by bit: it drives you
looney. then, gee whiz, of course it is too late to quit." Ami
if I take a cup of tea, as any British curate might, the
doc conies up and cries, "Ah. me! You've sealed your doom,
you poor old wight!" With weary heart and frigid feet
and streaming eyes 1 chase along; no matter what 1 drink
or eat, I know tiie doc will say it's wrong.

HONGKONG. June 27 The Can-
ton government has given the most
explicit assurances that It will pre
vent any further anti foreign demon
strations at Shameen. the foreign
quarter of Canton.
The situation is still tense, al
though there appears lo be no ground
for rumors that the Chinese intend
to seize Shameen.
Germans at Shameen have been
guaranteed full protection by Chi
nese authorities, provided they wear
,vhile armlets..

way between Pistol river and Brook
ings and ordered the entire distance
of 23 miles advertised for grading
