AFTER THE TUMALO RESERVOIR FAILED TO HOLD WATER ON AC COUNT OF THE SUBTERRANEAN LEAKS. THE DISTRICT WAS IN A SF.HIOUS CONDITION. AS A LARGE PART OF ITS TERRITORY HAD BEEN SOLD WITH WATER RIGHTS. FOR SEVERAL YEARS IT WORRIED ALONG. USING THE FLOW OF TUMALO CREEK DIVERTED THROUGH THE COLUMBIA SOUTH EN CANAL. PIONEER IRRIGATION DITCH OF CENTRAL OREGON. IN 11121. HOWEVER. THE DISTRICT WAS ALLOTTED I1Y THE STATE RIGHTS TO STORAGE AT BRNHAM FALLS. THE NEXT YEAR MAKING A DEAL WHEREBY IT SECURED STORAGE AT CRESCENT LAKE INSTEAD. THE STORAGE RIGHTS HAVING KEEN PREVIOUSLY IN THE HANDS OF THE WALKER BASIN INTERESTS. THE DAM AT CRESCENT LAKE AND THE CANAL I ROM THE DES CHUTES TO THE PROJECT'S DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WERE COMPLETED LATE IN 11)28. HO THAT LAST SUMMER WAS THE FIRST THAT THE DISTRICT. WHICH CHANGED ITS NAME TO THE DESCHUTES COUNTY MUNICIPAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, USED WATER FROM THIS NEW SOURCE.
