Professor Says American VniverMty
Half Way Between High School
Aud German Plan.
BERKELEY. Cal., Feb. 21. That
there is too much "police system" in
American university education, was
the declaration' here recently of
Adolph E. Anderson, associate pror
fessor of the English department of
the University of California.
"The American university is at a
half way station between the Ger
man university and the American
high school system," said Anderson.
"The English idea of being more ma
ture seems to stimulate individual
thought better than the present po
lice system of this country.
"Too many professors think that
college students must be watched.
That sabmitting to four years of
boredom in order to- obtain a degree
is a waste of time, was the declara
tion of Anderson. Anderson favors
greater personal relationship be
tween student and professor.
PACKAGE BOXES TO
AID MAIL CARRIER
Three large metal package boxes
to be located at points in Bend yet
to be determined, are on the way and
are expected greatly to ease the la
bors of the mail carrier. The boxes
will make possible the caching of
packages at convenient points, mak
ing it unnecessary for the carrier to
struggle along under a heavy load
for his entire route.

CURE FOR DIVORCE

riage Declared Most Important
In Curbing Evil.
CHICAGO, Feb. 21. Cozy corners
are a cure for divorce in the opinion
of Rev. John Thompson, pastor of
the First Methodist church, Chicago's
"marryin' parson."
He Buggests that every church and
parish house have one. or two or
three cozy corners for the girls who
live in hall bedrooms.
"For," he told the United Press,
"young people never have made love,
and never will, under an arc light."
In place of legislation he would
substitute a comfortable parlor.
He charged that the angels of the
churches are so busy setting up bars
at the exit from marriage that they
have neglected the entrance.
"It is better," he suggests, "to give
two young people a cozy cornet by
themselves where they may become
acquainted."

DENVER, Colo., Feb. 21. Wool

But the golosh must go.
This is the edict of social loaders
among the male students at Denver
University as regards co-eds at that
institution. The men believe Iff tho
girls' business to wear what they
want, but the flopping of the un
gainly golosh causes the university
males some concern.
When it's snowing or raining, ine
golosh is quite the thing, the men
believe, but ' they ' can't understand
why the co-eds want to woar them
down the streets when there's no
dampness.
An Odd Superstition.
To break a looking glass Is regarded
by the superstitious ns forecasting
seven years of bad luck. Peacock
feathers were once considered as bear
ers of bad luck, but now they are fa
vorites wltb decorators.
