Miss Marie Sloan, tbeir daugh ter, is here from Portland. Sloan recalls that he caught bis first fish ln what is now called Klam ath Marsh. He passed within two miles of Crater Lake on that trip, but did not know of the existence of the now famous scenic spot. The Slsemore ranch house was sit uated on the grassy fiat a half mile north of the Brooks-Scanlon boiler bouse, and was still standing in 1915, when it was removed during the lay ing out of tbe Brooks-Scanlon yards. It was near this spot, called "Fare well Bend," that east and west tra velers forded the Deschutes In the early days.
