Home coming relatives and ' guests are arriving daily, numerous dinner parties will be enjoyed on Sunday and social pleasures sched uled for the holiday week, Miss Agnes Sheridan who is a stu dent at the University of Washing- .' ton at Seattle arrived Thursday to apend the holidays with her mother at the I H. Meister home on Drake ' Road. . Mrs. E. D. Gllson returned the first of the week from a two month's so journ with relatives and friends In Butte. Mont., Coeur d' Alene, Ida. and Spokane and Rltxvllle, Wash. The Christmas dancing party held Wednesday evening at the Masonic hall proved to be the most delightful social function ever given by the Ma . sonic Order. ! The assembly hall was most beau tifully decorated tor the occasion. In the center of the ceiling hung a huge Christmas bell covered with greenery . in which tiny colored electric lights were concealed and from which radi ated red and green streamers to the fonr corners of the room. Each of the chandeliers was also covered with evergreens, pendants of tinsel sus pended from each producing the ef fect of hanging icicles. In the cen- . ter of the rear platform a home scene with a fireplace in readiness for the St. Nick's visit was represented while bowers of greenery were arranged on either side. The Saxojazi orches tra secluded within one of these nooks furnished the music for the dancing which included a number of moonlight waltzes, particularly ef fective in the decorative setting. As a special musical feature of the eve ning a double quartet composed of Mrs. Ashley Forrest, Mrs. Byron Royce, Mrs. Glen Goodman, Mrs. Hor ace Richards, Charles G. Wilson, Charles W. Erskine, Glen Goodman, and Dr. L. W. Gatchell sang a num ber of Christmas carols which in eluded tbe familiar "Joy to the World," "Little Town of Bethlehem," "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" and "Holy Night." At the usual hour light refreshments were served. - Tbe Episcopal guild held its reg ular meeting on Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. K. Brooks. Fol lowing the business meeting the hours were spent in sewing and at 4:30 o'clock a delicious luncheon was served. Mrs. W. R. Speck is anticipating the pleasure of entertaining her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Harland of ' Villa, Wash., during the Christmas week. Mrs. Lou Gray and Miss Bertha Peeper of Portland will spend the holiday season at the A. F. Larson home on Drake Road. The passing of the Old Year is to be celebrated at the American Le gion building with a big cabaret party to be put on by the American Legion - and the Auxiliary which from the interest already being shown will draw a large crowd. A very novel form of decoration ' which Is being kept as a surprise feature will be elaborately carried out. TalItJ will be arranged oil the floor of the main auditorium ac commodate four hundred persons, reservations for which are now on sale. Each reservation will be made for the entire evening and will en title the holder to the entertainment for the evening which will include music, dancing and a program of four clever acts of two parts each. Re freshments will be served by of bevy of girls in costume who will later pass among the crowd selling fun provoking devices. Altho only four hundred persons can be accommo dated on the main floor, the gallery ' will be open to spectators. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Thompson arrived Wednesday to spend the hol iday season at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Erskine. This week ushered in one round of pleasures for the children of Bend. On Thursday evening over 900 boys and girls were the guests of the American Legion and a number of other leading organizations at a big community Christmas tree and pro gram at the American Legion build ing. This evening they will be en tertained with similar programs at each of the churches. However, the greatest social event of the year for the children will take place at the w f TW Mktki mm at la air ti Elks' club rooms at 8 o'clock when the B. P. O. E. will bold a big Christ mas party to which Individual Invita tions have been sent to seven hun dred boys and girls. Three large trees are In readiness for the occasion, each decorated and laden with a remembrance for each guest. The program will include story telling and games In charge of Mrs. William Searcy, two solo dances, "The Fairy" and "Jack Frost" by Miss Irene Carr, and a vocal solo by Mrs. R. B. Gould. Immediately fol lowing the program, Santa Clans is scheduled to arrive, extend greetings and assist with the distribution of gifts. As the final pleasure of the evening, the children will be taken to the Liberty theatre where a film will be shown which to them will have a special Interest, a dog story, "The Eternal Triangle." A watch party will be held at the Christian church on New Years Eve for which a number of interesting so cial diversions are being planned. Mrs. Charles Knowles and son Jack leave Sunday for Portland where they will spent Christmas at the home of Mrs. Knowles' sister, Mrs. B. A. Ewers. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bennett and family will spend Christmas day at the home of Hubert Scoggins at Plainview. - Mrs. Isobel Ough of Portland ar rived Tuesday to spend the holidays at the home of her son L. V. Ough. CHURCH The Peoples Church Divine services will be held on Christmas Sunday both morning and evening. Dr. Hartranft will preach at both services. The morning ser mon will be on Christmas; and the evening sermon will be on "The Life and Work of Christ." The evening sermon will be illustrated by the use of a stercopticon. The morning service will be at 11 o'clock and the evening service at 7:30. The Bible school will hold Its meeting at 10 a. m.
