Di vorces as a nuans of retting rid of troublesome mutes are becoming un fashionable in Sun Francisco, accord ing to Superior Judge E. I. Short all. Annulments are proving less cum bersome and quicker iu fact, quick er than Reno. As a result the grand jury Is going to look into things a bit. Persons who desire to travel their paths singly after failing to pull properly in double harness have dis covered, Shortall says, that they canlusual at this season. bring a suit for annulment, alleging the other member of the partnership had a previous male, from whom there was no legal divorce. The case is tried and often, by agreement or on account of being unable to pro duce evidence. It goes uncontested. The marriage is annuled. The minute the annulment is en tered both parties are free to marry again, without the formality of wait ing a year. But what interests the court Is why there have been no prosecutions for bigamy growing out of the many annulments granted on the grounds of bigamous marriage. Annulments have average as high as seven a day for a week during the last six months, court records show. The Fort Kock Milllcan road via Fox butte is also passable, but whoever attempts it must buck two feet of snow at the summit, he declares. Snow will not leave that region for a month yet. Plumb believes, as the ground is still froien. Other roads to the south are lu good condition although there Is more moisture than Bet ween La Pine and Fort Rock the road Is rough, but muddy only lu a few places, and nowhere Is a car In dan ger of being stopped by mud. The China Hat cutoff between Sand Springs and Fort Rock will not be open for a month. WATER IS THROWN 100 FEET IN AIR Fire Department Holds First Out door Drill of Year, Inspecting Downtown Hydrant.. Outdoor drill was held yesterday for the first time this year by the Bend fire department, the engine be ing taken out for a practice run. The pumper was tuned up almost to its capacity, throwing a stream of water more than 100 feet in the air against a heavy wind. The pressure reached was 260 pounds to the square inch and water was "Siamesed" from two lines into one, giving additional force. A number of hydrants were in spected in the downtown district, a run being made to each and connec tions made. The steamer suctions for connecting the pumper to the large hydrant openings were at tached for, the first time and found practicable.
