TOOR MAN MAY NOW BE BRITISH CHIEF I'l-liuo MiniNli-r (liven Ofllt-inl Place of Hii(limri Within Kasy IMs (mice of London. I (fly United I'i-imu to The Hend ltullctln.) LONDON, Feb. 7. Kriluin's prime ministers liuvo at lust nn official place of residence, Premier Lloyd ! Georfie being I hp first occupant of j the beautiful estate, known as tlio ' Chequers, in ltuckiiiRliamshlre. which was presented to tho nation by Lord Lee of Karoham "as n thanksgiving for her doliveranco in tho great war' und as "a place of rest and recrea tion for her prlmo ministers forever." It is generally assumed that No. 10 Downing street, London, Is the offi cial residence of the premier, but this is not so, as tho office of prime minister is not recognized by the constitution. No. 10 is the official residence of the first lord of the treasury, just as No. 11 Downing street Is the residence of the chancel lor of the exchequer. I'sually the premier takes the office of first lord of tho treasury, but he cannot occu py No. 10 Downing street unless he does or except by the grace of the proper occupant. The Chequers, which Is within handy reach of London, however, is specifically designed for the prime minister, whatever other office he may hold. Premiers like the late Marquis of Salisbury, the Earl of Rosebery, the late Sir Henry Camp-bell-Iinnerman and Arthur Balfour had huge estates, but Premier Lloyd George is a comparatively poor man, as was ex-Promier Asquith. MOVIE BILL IS LIVE ISSUE AT SALEM SESSION (Continued from Page 1.) aries does Dot seem to hold out much encouragement. The circuit judges have lost hope of any increase of sal aries during this session at least. Representative C. M. La Follett's bill proposing to eliminate some of the school holidays was killed by a decisive vote in the house. His bill would have required school to be held on Washington's birthday, Lincoln's birthday, Discovery day and Armis tice day, but would have the schools give special exercises on such days, and would cause the teacher to for feit her pay if she did not hold school on such days.
