Men representing 20 families from Hillaboro, Oregon, and that imme diate vicinity, are now ready to come to Bend and locate, and are nly waiting for the operation of the auto mobile line. The Bend Water, Light & Po"wer Co. this week placed an order for an electric light plant of 1200 sixteen candle power incandescent lamps. The dynamo and full equipment are to be delivered in Bend in July. Over 34 tons of merchandise has arrived in Bend this week, or is on the way from; Shaniko, nearly all (he freight being stock for local stores. . Professor Samuel Fortier, while here last wek, outlined a plan for work at the experiment farm of the D. & I. P. Co. a short distance south east of town. This will be of the greatest importance because it Is the first venture in truly experimental agriculture in the Deschutes valley. Dr. U. C. Coe.'traveled about 112 miles between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon to answer a call td attend the father of C. E. Branton, who resides 25 miles north . -west of Cline falls on the edge of the desert. ' ' Water is .now flowing full length in the Pilot Butte canal and also in the Central Oregon ditch. E. A. Griffin this week caught a five pound trout, and on opening it discovered a seven inch trout in its stomach. Ora Poindexter. Creed and Car lyla Triplet!', and Robert A. Puett started on a fishing trip up the liver to spend several days. They took with them a boat to use in the sport. Last Sunday, Grant Braskett brought in a Dolly Vardeu trout which weighed close to 10 pounds. The fish was caught in the Deschutes. Insects Give Us Shellac. Shellac is the Joint product of In sects and plants and conies from India. The lac Insects nre about one-twenty-firtb of an Inch long, a bright red In color. They suck the Juices of plants, digest them and exude them in the form of resin, which soon encases the whole insect. When the young Insects hare swarmed - out. the resin Is scraped from the branches, ground, washed, mixed with , colophony and orplment, cooked slowly and .drawn, out into the thin sheets we know as shellac , .
