The matter ot securing a public library tor Bend which will be a credit to the city is being agitated by the Library club members. It is a need""wkich has been felt for some . time, but plans along this line, which were well under way, were side- 1 tracked with many other things at the time war was declared. For immediate use, funds for this purpose are hardly available, as both county 'and city use the budget - system. This means that whatever amount is asked will have, to be placed on the estimate of expenses for the coming year, and that' the money needed cannot be had until that time. The implied threat that the library will no longer continue as an Insti tution unless immediate action is taken is perhaps somewhat hasty. Both city and county administra tions are known to be heartily in favor ot an up-to-date building well stocked with more and better books, but Bend, needs its present library, inadequate though it may be, and should retain it until a better one can be provided. THE LADIES' AUXILIARY. Women ot Bend are objecting to the suggestion of the president of the State Federation of Women's clubs, that a ladies' auxiliary to the IBend Commercial club be formed. There Is already such an organiza tion in existence, they assert, and as - proof of this existence it is pointed out that a meeting Was held only two years ago. 1 The Indies' auxiliary in the past has been closely associated with Bond's progress, but many in this city were ot the opinion that the organliution had passed into history by a tacit understanding rathor thnu by formal action. The work that the auxiliary. has accomplished in termor years, however, Indicates that with Bond entering into a new era ot pros perity, the organization may again attain a prominent position iu com munity affairs. Daily Market Report (FurnUhed by arrangement with th ' Central Oration Bank.) The enviable record that Oregon has made in preceding loans and the thoroughness ot the organization ef fected at the conference ot county chairmen and directors last week are believed to be the stimulus to efficiency, .when the date tor sub scriptions to the Victory-Liberty loan is reached.- Treasury department officials have offered as an incentive to the state first in completing sub scription the large flag that floated over the capltol building at Wash ington during the history-making period of the war. Oregon Bhould win this flag. NORTH PORTLAND, April S. One hundred cnttlo received. Mur kot Hteutly.
