Directors Lay Plans at First Meeting
Special Scenery to Be Made
for Home Talent Play.
Preliminary plans for a big mem
bership campaign, to begin in the
early part of April, were made last
night when the new board of direc
tors of the Bend Amateur Athletic
club held thoir first meeting. The
directors feel that a large enough
proportion of the people of Bend is
not getting the benefits of the splen
did gymnasium and club facilities,
and it is on this belief that the cam
paign will be based.
The directors made arrangements
for the painting of special scenery
for the next home talent play, "What
Happened to Jones," and to allow
time for this, postponed the date of
tbe production to April 4. Pleased
with the efficient service given, they
re-elected Athletic Director Luckey
and Secretary L. C. Carroll.
Plans are toeing made for the in
stallation of lockers at the club, this
work being in charge of Carl A.
Johnson. It is expected that 100
will be put in for the benefit of the
members who first make application
for them.

Says Department Chief.
When three toots are sounded by
the new fire siren being tried out
by the Bend fire department, resi
dents of the city need have no fear
that a conflagration has broken out.
It's just a signal to the members of
the volunteer department ' for fire
drill. Chief Tom Carton announced
today.
The code for district signals will
be worked out later and made public.
A more powerful siren 13 now on its
way to Bend and will be tried out
