What is thought to be the site of one of the finest natural fish hatch eries In the United States has been found within 20 miles of Uend and efforts are being made to Interest the state fish warden In moving the present hatchery to the new location. The site Is located at the source of Fall River where lies half a mllo of smooth water which remains the onmn linlnhl 1. A nnttu. Ac cording to authorities, no concrete pools or dams would need to bo con structed, the only equipment neces sary being screens. At the least cal culation 6,000,000 stnelheads could be hatched there annually. In view of the fact that It will soon be necessary to move the present hatchery on the Deschutes river a mile or so above the mills to a new site, the Fall River pond Is of es pecial Interest at this time. Kffnrts are being mailo to bring Stale Fish Warden II. A. Clanton here to look over the proposed ground. It has been found that many fish are lost annually In the present pools due to the rising and lowering of the water and the excessive warmth of It, Uccause no road reached the hatch ery all cans of fiHh for planting In streams have to be carried out by band. This has retarded Iho distri bution to a large extent. The Fall River ground could bo reached by a fine road which runs directly past the proposed hatchery. As to expense, moving tbo fish to Fall River would Involve only a small sum of money as no new pools would have to ho constructed. Sportsmen are of the opinion that tho fish should bo moved this year on account of tho largo number being lost In tho Deschutes river al present. Two hatchorymen brought down three weeks ago 'from IJonnovllle looked at thn Fall River site and pronounced It an Ideal spot for the fish. 1ii!itlr!ll'iiMiitiitttitMt'ti"l.i'!Hm(!i,",,!iPH,Wt n1 i :'T I- l i ' i.i. ,.i LOCATION OF WELLS NEAR FORT ROCK The trip mndo this week by As sistant Forest Supervisor V.
