The two are teaming up to
help Gabrielle Bedolla, a 2022
Pendleton High School grad-
uate, who is planning to study
music at Eastern Washing-
ton University. The Two J.D.s
is Friday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m. at
Pendleton Center for the Arts,

There is no set admission
charge. People are invited to
enjoy pizza and an evening
of artistic expression. Dona-
tions will be accepted, which

tuition.
Kindle will unveil some
new songs he has been work-
ing on, Smith will read

September
STANFIELD — People
experiencing loss are encour-
aged to mark their calen-
dars for upcoming programs
through GriefShare.
A special one-time session,
Loss of a Spouse, is Sunday,
Sept. 11, 3-5 p.m. at Stan-
fi eld Baptist Church, 310 E.
Wheeler Ave. Those griev-
ing the death of a spouse are
encouraged to attend the free
seminar.
Also, a 13-week Grief-
Share support group offers
participants additional tools
as they navigate the loss of
a loved one. The free faith-
based program begins Sunday,
Sept. 18, 3-5 p.m., also at Stan-
fi eld Baptist.
Scott Zielke, Stanfield
Baptist’s congregational care
pastor, said each lesson is
self-contained. The format
allows participants to gain
regardless of when they start
attending.
The sessions, Zielke
said, include video seminars
with grief recovery experts,
small discussion groups and
personal study through a
workbook. The nondenom-
inational program features
biblical principles and off ers
help and encouragement after
the death of a spouse, child,
family member or friend. A
free workbook is provided.

Harriet Sheoships Bott
12:19 a.m. — A 911 caller on West Orchard Avenue, Hermis-
ton, requested police, stating her husband is drinking and she
wants him to come inside before he scares her daughter. Police
responded.
10:01 a.m. — A man told Hermiston police he was “doing
some work at the motel” and found at least eight to 10 people
living in a room toward the back of the complex off East Ridge-
way Avenue.
11:04 a.m. — Hermiston police received a request for a wel-
fare check on a male on a bicycle pulling a cart covered in tin-
foil with a toddler inside.
2:48 p.m. — A caller reported a semitrailer rolled on the
eastbound side of Interstate 84 at Boardman. Emergency ser-
vices responded, and an ambulance took one person to Good
Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.
2:50 p.m. — Hermiston police received a complaint about a
man and two other people yelling at each other on West Ridge-
way Avenue because the two people were working on a car in
a parking lot.
3:13 p.m. — A juvenile fell off his bike at Northwest Gale and
Hinton streets, Heppner, and may have broken his nose. He was
transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospitals, Heppner.
9:10 p.m. — Local law enforcement responded to Love’s
Travel Stops & Country Store, 78665 Tower Road, Boardman,
on a call about a Carl Jr.’s male guest who was throwing things
at employees. He wore a hot pink tank top and gray or khaki
shorts. Offi cers were not able to fi nd the person.
9:26 p.m. — Hermiston police responded to Space Age Fuel
Travel Center, 77522 Highway 207, on a report of a fi ght.
TUESDAY, AUG. 16
4:10 a.m. — Hermiston police took a report of graffi ti at Har-
rison Park, 215 N.W. 13th St.
9:55 a.m. — A resident on Southwest Second Street, Irrigon,
reported her neighbor’s dogs barked at her for more than an
hour while she sat on her patio.
11:44 a.m. — Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce took another
call about the dogs barking at the resident of Southwest Sec-
ond Street, Irrigon. The caller said the neighbor allows the dogs
to bark continuously and aggravates the dogs toward her.
4:23 p.m. — Hermiston police responded to West Ridgeway
Avenue on a report of a vehicle theft.
8:15 p.m. — A resident in Irrigon reported her boyfriend
yelled at her and hit her with the toilet seat. He also threatened
her life, she said, and she was able to leave to a friend’s house.
10:08 p.m. — Pendleton police responded to the 200 block
of Southeast 17th Street on a report of an assault.

Aug. 15
• Morrow County Sheriff ’s Offi ce arrested Jesse Aus-
tin Corbin, 25, for driving under the infl uence of intoxicants
(alcohol).
• Hermiston police arrested Harold Lloyd White, 48, for vio-
lating a no-stalking order.
Aug. 16
• Hermiston police arrested Jerardo Pedro Sital, 24, for felon
in possession of a weapon, altering the identifi cation number
on a fi rearm and violating parole.
• Boardman police at 9:52 p.m. responded to a report of
a male who pulled a gun on people at Wilson Lane and Paul
Smith Road. Police arrested Cesar Vargas Martinez, 18, for
fourth-degree assault, third-degree theft, unauthorized entry
into a vehicle and fi rst-degree robbery.
• Hermiston police arrested Fermin Isaias Jeronimo-Chales,
27, for fourth-degree assault.

On Aug.10, 2022, Margaret
Melinda Buwalda passed away
in the comfort of her home due
to complications of congestive
heart failure at the age of 74. She
was often known as Mel and her
personal favorite “Nana'.”
Mel is survived by her husband
of 48 years, Ronald Buwalda, and
their beloved overweight “teacup”
chihuahua, Maggie Sue; her four children, David
Bailey, Shirlan Bailey McKay (J.T.), Daina Bailey Srofe
(Chris) and Darla Bailey Hunt; her sister and best friend,
Joyce Jones; sisters-in-law, Barbara Christley (Mike),
Patty Buwalda, Francine Sather; brother-in-law, Burt
(Delphi) Buwalda; her granddaughters, Jessica, Laci,
Makenzie (Tanner), Ashleigh (Casey), Jordan, Bailey
and Destenee; five great-grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Melinda was on March 15, 1948, in Pendleton,
Oregon. She was raised in Echo, and she created a
wonderful life in the area. She loved camping, playing
cards, riding four-wheelers and spending time with her
family.
Melinda will be remembered for her sense of
strength and stubbornness, her hospitality, and the love
for her family.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug.
20, 1 p.m. at the Stanfield Moose Lodge, Stanfield,
Oregon.

Michael ‘Mike’ John Hug
October 31, 1953 - August 13, 2022
Michael “Mike” John Hug of
Hermiston was born Oct. 31, 1953,
in La Grande, Oregon, the son of
Russell and Laura (Schaffer) Hug.
He passed away in Kennewick,
Washington, on Saturday, Aug. 13,
2022, at the age of 68.
Mike grew up on his family
ranch near Summerville, Oregon,
and attended schools in nearby
Imbler. He graduated from Imbler
High School in the class of 1971. After high school, he
attended Eastern Oregon University for two years. He
then took some time to travel and visited Australia, New
Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii. Upon returning to Oregon,
he owned and operated a wood stove business in Elgin,
Oregon, for several years.
He moved to Hermiston in the mid-1980s and has
lived in the Hermiston and Umatilla areas since that
time. He worked as a manager for Coast to Coast
(which later became Ace Hardware) in Hermiston for
nearly 25 years.
Mike married Mary Woodard in Hermiston, Oregon,
on Dec. 7, 1985, and from this union two children,
Marci and Anthony, were born. The couple divorced
after 17 years of marriage.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, riding
dirt bikes and ATVs, taking trips to Wallowa Lake and
spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of
Relay for Life in Hermiston and the Hermiston Rotary.
Survivors include his daughter, Marci Murray; son,
Anthony (Chey-Anne) Hug; grandchildren, Morgyn
Murray, Brooklyn Cowan and Casen Hug; brother,
David Hug; sister, Karen Hug; and several nieces and
nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday,
Aug. 26, 2022, at the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W.
Hermiston Ave., Hermiston, Oregon. A private family
interment will be in Summerville Cemetery.
