The free event is Thursday at the Pendleton First Presbyterian Church. BRIEFLY Special service offers hope for holiday blues PENDLETON — As the dreary days of winter con- tinue, the First Presbyterian Church is offering a time for remembering that God is with us during hard times. The holiday season can bring up painful memories for some — while others may be struggling with loss, depression or other hard- ships. Worshiping together provides an opportunity to connect with others and rec- ognize the need for God’s presence. People of all faiths are invited to the Blue Christ- mas service. The event is Thursday, Dec. 19 from 7-8 p.m. at the First Pres- byterian Church, 201 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton. The service features prayer, poetry, music and scripture readings to speak to you soul — and even a chance to light a candle for yourself and your loved ones. The service is hosted by the First Presbyte- rian Church and Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. For more information, call 541- 276-7681 or 541-276-3809. Adventist church hosts Christmas sing-a-long PENDLETON — Peo- ple are invited to get into the holiday spirit during a spe- cial service at the Pendle- ton Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Christmas sing-a- long service is Friday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at the church, 1401 S.W. Goodwin Place, Pendleton. The audience can pick songs from the hym- nal to sing as a group. The program will include spe- cial performances between songs. There is no sermon or offering during the special service. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 541-276-0882. M-F church choir presents Christmas musical M I LT O N - F R E E WA- TER — The congrega- tion of the Milton-Freewa- ter First Christian Church invites people to ring in the holiday season with them as the church choir presents ‘’Christmas Musical.” The free event is Sun- day at 6 p.m. at 518 S. Main St. Also, earlier in the day, Bible classes for all ages are offered at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Steve Lyons leads the wor- ship service at 10:30 a.m. In addition, there will be a children’s Christmas party during the 10:30 a.m. wor- ship hour. Living Faith plans caroling outreach HERMISTON — Mem- bers of Living Faith Church will share the joy of the season through Christmas caroling. The group will gather Saturday at 5:50 p.m. at the church, 1611 Diagonal Blvd., Hermiston. Participants can carpool to Sun Terrace Hermiston, 1550 N.W. 11th St. Anyone who would like to help share Christmas cheer to those who may have a harder time getting out are invited to join them. St. John’s celebrates advent season HERMISTON — As part of the holiday season, St. John’s Episcopal Church is hosting a Christmas pot- luck dinner. The gathering is Sunday at 6 p.m. in the parish hall, 665 E. Gladys Ave., Herm- iston. The meal features prime rib — those attending are invited to bring a dish to share. Also, the public is invited to celebrate the third and fourth Sundays of advent, which are Dec. 15 and 22 at 9 a.m. The services will include music and holy eucharist.
