He is set to face Jürgen Klopp’s Reds for the first time since be- ing sacked when his new club, Tottenham Hotspur, takes on the league leaders on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tune in to NBC for live coverage of the match from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Dele Alli has benefitted the most from Mourinho’s arrival. In Mourinho’s first four games in charge, Alli had scored three Pre- mier League goals and once in a Champi- ons League match against Olympiakos. His goal against Manchester United portrayed the form he is in at the moment; posted up with his back towards the goal, Alli brought down a high ball with a remarkable first touch to beat his defender and volley the ball past David de Gea. Unfortunately, his goal wasn’t enough to help his new man- ager beat his former club, and the Spurs were defeated 2-1 at Old Trafford. Both the Reds and the Spurs have struggled to keep clean sheets this season, despite having world-class defenders protecting their goal. In its first 15 games of the season, Liverpool managed only two clean sheets, while the Spurs kept only one (a league worst). The main difference between the clubs at that juncture was that Liverpool was eight points clear at the top of the league, while the Spurs sat in eighth position. If Mourinho can settle his backline, the Spurs could possibly salvage a season of disappointment left by Mauricio Pochettino. On the other hand, if Liverpool could keep a few more clean sheets, then its first league title in 30 years (and first- ever Premier League title) will be its for the taking.
