The Tigers had the ball with 22 seconds left in the game, and a long pass play set them up in Weston-McE- wen territory, but a fumble on what would be the last play of the game killed the drive. PILOT ROCK 28, IMBLER 14 — Tanner Cor- win threw for three touch- downs to help the Rockets to a key 1A Special District 3 home win over Imbler. Logan Weinke caught two touchdowns passes, while Ian Gambill caught one. “I am ecstatic,” Pilot Rock coach Mike Baleztena said. “I am so proud of them. Imbler was humongous and they were ranked No. 5 in the state. Our defense saved us tonight. They were gritty and tough.” Saber Harp led the Rock- ets (5-0) with 14 tackles. All Bucks, all night By BRETT KANE East Oregonian PREP FOOTBALL Carrying their momentum from last week’s road win at Scappoose that earned them the district’s No. 1 spot, the Pendleton Bucks shut out Milwaukie 56-0. It was their season’s first game playing in the Pendleton Round-Up arena. For quarterback Trent Sorey, who threw for 118 yards and two touchdowns, the game was partic- ularly special. He made his return to the famed stadium as a foot- ball player after competing in this year’s Round-Up as a team roper. “This was wonderful,” he said. “I’ve been coming here ever since I was little. This was a dream come true.” His team wasted no time put- ting the ball in the end zone. Less than two minutes into the first quarter, Sorey carried for 21 yards to score. Later in the first quarter, Pendleton Milwaukie 56 0 a pass from running back Aiden Patterson to wide receiver Mathias Patrick put the Bucks ahead 13-0. Pendleton proved just as strong defensively. Patterson, a line- backer on defense, forced Mil- waukie quarterback Deegan McCord into their own end zone for a safety, wrapping up the first quarter with the Bucks in the lead, 15-0. The Bulldogs got 138 yards and three touch- downs from Wyatt Noland in the first half to open a 41-0 lead over Southridge of Kennewick. A running clock in the second half moved things along, with Hermiston fin- ishing the night with a 56-0 Mid-Columbia Conference Hermiston Southridge 56 0 victory over the Suns at Kennison Field. “We talked about play- ing to our level all the time,” Hermiston coach David Faaeteete said. “Southridge is young and hurt. We just had to play hard and finish the game.” Hermiston moves to 4-1 in MCC play, and will take on Chiawana next Friday at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco. The Riverhawks dropped a 34-21 game to Hanford on Friday. Andrew James ran for a 1-yard touchdown, and threw for two more as he put up 168 yards in the air in the first half. His TD passes went to Trevor Wagner and Jordan Ramirez. Sports shorts Group wants voters to decide on Safeco Field funds SEATTLE (AP) — A group of res- idents wants voters to have the final say on whether Safeco Field should get $135 million in county founding. KOMO-TV reported Friday that the group called Citizens Against Sport Stadium Subsidies filed a refer- endum on the matter and will have to collect enough signatures to get it on the ballot. The effort comes just over a week after the King County Council approved spending $135 million in public funding for improvements at Safeco Field. THIS DATE IN SPORTS Americans win in shootout Nolan Yaremko scored the game-winner in the shootout to help the Tri-City Americans to a 6-5 vic- tory Friday over the Portland Win- terhawks at Toyota Center. Kyle Olson also scored in the shootout for the Americans, who improved to 2-0-0-0 on the season. They will host Everett on Saturday. Parker AuCoin and Connor Bouchard scored back-to-back goals in the first 7:39 of the first period, but the Winterhawks came right back in the second to take a 5-3 lead. Krystof Hrabik and Riley Saw- chuk scored 47 seconds apart mid- way through the third period for Tri-City to tie the score at 5-5. Yaremko also had a goal and an assist for the Americans, who got two assists from Isaac Johnson and 23 saves from Beck Warm.
