Hunger and poverty are daily challenges, as are political turmoil and vio- lence. Despite these obsta- cles, Fabienne Jean, coordi- nator of the Hands Together Foundation of Haiti, works diligently to fight for the most vulnerable of those liv- ing in her homeland. People are invited to hear about the efforts as part of the Pres- byterian Peacemaking Pro- gram’s International Peace- makers initiative. Jean will speak at a free event Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton. Donations will be accepted. Accompanying Jean is Cindy Corell, who works as a facilitator for the founda- tion. She will serve as Jean’s interpreter. “I hope people will hear from Fabienne the strength and power of the Haitian people,” Corell said. “She is strong, and you will hear stories from the heart. And for every Fabienne there are millions more with the same spirit; it’s an honor to talk about our dreams and prayers for peace.” For more informa- tion, contact fpcp@pend- letonpresbyterian.com or 541-276-7681.
